Democracy and a free press are two of the most powerful forces in society - and the greatest threats to Elon Musk's growing oligarchic influence. Yet, paradoxically, these same forces continue to give credibility to X, his platform for disinformation and bias.

Journalists won't leave X - after all, it's where their stories are shared, amplified and engaged with, despite all the bias against them. But we can demand that our political leaders stop endorsing it. By abandoning the platform, they can undermine its legitimacy, protect democratic values and encourage fairer alternatives.

Any suggestion of a technology for a multi language tool to host https://leavex.eu? The main idea is to have the open letter in several EU languages and possibly some pages.

The main features should be multi language support and easy to set up on GitHub Pages.

I already installed Jekyll, but it seems that other alternatives are better for multi language support, in this order, Hugo, MkDocs (I'm familiar with putting), and Eleventy (I'm familiar with Javascript).

Hugo seems a better option due to its native multilingual support. Thoughts?

With 133.5K followers, the festival encouraged fans to follow on Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, and its website. Additionally, Elon Musk’s re-sharing of posts supporting the German far-right AfD party and his involvement in the U.S. presidential campaign for Donald Trump have likely contributed to the Berlinale’s decision to depart from the platform.

Dá certa tristeza ver a escolha dos atuais assessores do presidente Lula, que em seus primeiros mandatos falava de boca cheia sobre software livre e tinha iniciativas nesse sentido, terem escolhido perfis oficiais no Bluesky e Threads.

Lembro de ter ido algumas vezes a Brasília, no contexto do movimento de dados governamentais abertos e hacking cívico, e ver muito servidor público literalmente puxando projetos e iniciativas voltadas ao software livre e código aberto.

Talvez fazendo um pouco de mea culpa, pois virei imigrante, mas todo mundo sumiu? E os funcionários públicos daquela época?

Me parece que um conceito que passou batido nesse movimento foi o perigo da centralização. Poderíamos ter servidores oficiais com Mastodon ou algo análogo, como alguns na Alemanha e União Européia, mas a primeira iniciativa é logo ir pra uma plataforma com os mesmos vícios que nos levaram a essa situação.

Editado: e descobri que também criou no Threads, mas ainda não ativou a opção de fazer parte do fediverso, o que mostra o despreparo dos assessores.

I just watched an informative documentary on Arte detailing important aspects of the actual farright government of Israel and some of its key figures: the boss, Netanyahu, the minister of national security and defense, Ben-Gvir, and the minister of finance, Smotrich.

That's a really bold statement, not surprising tho. Does anyone have more materials to back up this claim?

The documentary covers several other important aspects, but that's a crucial one.

Again, one of the biggest threats to the planet is the global farright movement, which navigates well on disinformation campaigns.

I'm intrigued by some posts I've seen saying that Mastodon, or more generally the Fediverse, has the same problem with minorities that we find widely on traditional social media platforms, especially the big tech ones like x and meta. I disagree if you compare it to the cases where constantly outrageous posts appear on your timeline harming minorities.

How could technology solve a problem that is inherently caused by human beings? If, at the moment, this federated social media is still not a safe space for minorities, isn't this a good time and a great opportunity to solve the moderation problems while we still have far fewer people active here? Offenders will not cease to exist, and technology can only mitigate the damage they can cause.

We have a big challenge if this is really going to scale.
