We must never forget the Holocaust.

On #HolocaustRemembranceDay, we remember the six million Jewish women, men and children, hundreds of thousands of Roma, and all other victims of the Holocaust.

Today we mark the 80 years since the liberation of the Nazi concentration and extermination camp Auschwitz-Birkenau.

It is our duty to teach future generations about European history, including its darkest chapters.

Today, a revised Code of conduct on countering illegal hate speech online is being integrated into the framework of the Digital Services Act.

The new Code will strengthen how online platforms deal with content that EU and national laws define as illegal hate speech.

It will also facilitate compliance with and the effective enforcement of the DSA regarding risks of disseminating illegal content on their services.

Our Digital Services Act gives you more rights online, with extra measures to protect young users.

Very large online platforms and search engines are obliged to:

🔹 stop the spread of illegal content;
🔸 tell users if and why their content was removed;
🔹 give users options to opt out of seeing recommended content based on profiling;
🔸 ban ads targeted to minors;
🔹 be transparent about your interactions with AI.

Affordable housing is one of the most urgent challenges faced by Europeans.

The European capital awards not only celebrate urban excellence – they provide crucial incentives to create a brighter, more sustainable and accessible future for all.

1. Cleaner waters, healthier communities

The revised Directive ensures deeper protection for our ecosystems from harmful wastewater discharges:

✅ Covers areas starting from 1,000 inhabitants

✅ Stricter nutrient removal from wastewater
✅ New standards for micropollutants

2. Polluter pays principle

⚗️ Industries creating micropollutants, like pharmaceuticals and cosmetics industries, will cover at least 80% of the cost for advanced treatment of wastewater.

This will limit the cost of the new requirements for citizens.

3. Addressing microplastics and public health risks

The revised Directive introduces:

☑️ Systematic monitoring of microplastics & PFAS
☑️Health monitoring for antimicrobial resistance for early epidemic detection

5. Boosting circularity

💧 New requirements to recover valuable components from wastewater and sewage sludge, like phosphorus, a critical raw material in the EU.
💧 Stronger reuse of treated wastewater to protect water supplies in stressed regions.
