So, I'm yes, but. I think the common idea of reincarnation is that something essential about the person is transferred to a new body, without the person's memories being transferred. Or, at least, those memories are difficult to access.

I think what's essential to a person is their personal interests and characteristics. Through our actions and words, we can imprint those onto other people or even to other parts of the living or nonliving world. My sense of humour, for example, is passed along in part to my kids. My passion for the social web is, I think, spread around the world.

So, will there ever be a future person or creature with enough of my interests and characteristics that others would get that spooky feeling that the person *is* me? I think it's possible, but not easy. The others would have to know us both. I think it could happen in families between generations, but harder when across longer spans or time or space.

Would that person have my subjectivity? I don't think so. But that's not really part of the bargain with reincarnation; most ideas of it are that memories of previous life are lost.

Is this a meaningful framing? I don't know. I do think it's interesting, though. And maybe a comforting way to think about life and death.

@elduvelle it can happen after you die, right? Ideas, feelings, characteristics passed along either through other people or through writing or art.

@evan How would it work physically speaking? I mean what is the thing transferred and where does it go during the "transfer"?

@evan oh from your second post it seems you mean transfer of information during your lifetime ? I thought reincarnation was supposed to be after one's death...

I barely believe in continuity of consciousness from moment to moment, so I am not that bothered by this part.
