I would probably use my food processor WAY more often if it wasn't such a pain in the ass to clean... I don't like chopping things and would really like to just cram them all in an appliance.

Jess👾 (jesstheunstill@infosec.exchange)'s status on Monday, 12-Feb-2024 13:33:29 JST Jess👾 "If you REALLY cared about X you would do Y!"
It's such a common statement and implication in this world of ours. And it's utter bullshit. It's people abusing your emotions and using thought terminating clichés to try to force you into action by implying that if you don't do Y, then you don't care about X, and that if you don't care about X, you're a "Bad Person".
But the thing is, life isn't that simple.
Good people can care deeply about X, but come to different conclusions about whether Y is the best way to solve X.
Good people can care deeply about X, but have limited resources, time, attention, and money which prevents them from being able to prioritize Y.
Good people can come to a different conclusion about whether X is a thing that's most deserving of their attention and care right now.
A stranger doesn't get to define who is good or bad. They don't get to hijack your attention about whether their cause is The Most Important Thing to you right now. They don't get to force you to feel shame and guilt because you've already got too much on your plate.
Sure, advocate for the things that matter to you a lot. But reject the fallacy that just because a stranger has dumped guilt and shame in your lap that you have to give a shit.

(No I don't know their address, and wouldn't tell y'all even if I did)

And like I'm not opposed to using tweaks to the tax code to give businesses and investors incentives towards better and more sustainable behavior. Also, there's always going to be weird loopholes that companies use to dodge taxes that tax officials and legislators have to whack a mole. I just feel strongly about the fact that those who profit using our public infrastructure, goods, services, and markets should pay for it. Billionaires shouldn't be able to just continue increasing their wealth indefinitely without paying taxes. -

Both stock buybacks and dividends should be from post-tax earnings from the basic principle that a company used the country's infrastructure and residents to make those earnings, they owe it to the country to give their fair share back. What's left after paying taxes, they can make the business decision about whether they want to retain the cash for future investment and growth, do stock buybacks to reduce their outstanding shares, or pay it out to the shareholders as dividends. Any of those are acceptable choices. But a company should have to pay their taxes on their profits one way or another. -

Otherwise, just send a couple officers to go ring the doorbell.

Jess👾 (jesstheunstill@infosec.exchange)'s status on Sunday, 28-Jan-2024 04:28:24 JST Jess👾 SWATting would no longer be a problem at all if we abolished SWAT teams.
Maybe having an on demand paramilitary strike force that can be deployed by anyone with a phone and a plausible sounding story was a bad idea to start with.

Jess👾 (jesstheunstill@infosec.exchange)'s status on Thursday, 25-Jan-2024 19:08:46 JST Jess👾 FYI cis women/fems in tech - it's not just in your head. Misogyny is EXTREMELY real ALL OVER THE PLACE here. Having been the EXACT SAME PERSON with EVEN MORE YEARS OF EXPERIENCE in tech both BT/AT (Before tits/After tits), the amount of second guessing and pushback and mansplaining, and being told I'm "too emotional" or "I should be more polite" and whatever else has gone up DRAMATICALLY.
Seriously.
PS: And it's not just from men either. I've probably received at least as much misogyny from women in tech as I have men.

Yeah, it's why I post stuff like this periodically. The system is stacked in such a way that it's always impossible to really get a clear picture of how much is real vs how much is in your head. But trans people can tell you: even in 2024, the world is still sexist as hell. Otherwise us changing our pronouns and clothing wouldn't change anything meaningful. But it does. We're the closest thing to an A/B test of misogyny that you're ever going to get.
