@carnage4life Also, it's long been an open secret in tech that management has no clue how to measure performance accurately, systematically, and unbiased. They basically just throw process and numbers on top of their preexisting beliefs to launder their biases.
It's weird how you have some older people who, not only do they not know the lessons of history that happened before them, but they are incapable of even recognizing the parallels of history that have happened within their own lifespan.
It's not like any of this reactionary right wing populism bullshit is NEW. It pops its head up roughly once per generation. So if you're talking Boomers or older, they've seen it first hand 2 or 3 times now. And yet, so many people keep falling for it!
@hrefna It is MUCH easier to get from "we have an imperfect union" to "we have a better union" then it EVER will be to get from "we have no union" to "we have a great union".
Union organizing takes time, effort, and experience. Until you have that experience, you borrow from those who have it.
@CordiallyChloe WTF. Under literally any meaningful definition of woman, trans women are women. If you want to make up some stupid "woman gender not female sex" category for trans women to fit in, you'd also have to cram literally any cis woman who isn't able to bear children or who has non-typical chromosomes into that same category.
I'm not asking for help, I'm telling guys that there's a lot of awesome women out here that absolutely do NOT want to be picked up at a concert. In fact, in your attempt to pick her up, you've probably made the experience more uncomfortable and less safe because she can't enjoy simply existing in public without having to fend off advances from strangers.
Men demand access to women anywhere, anytime, and anyplace.
They see it as their RIGHT as men to be able to demand her time, attention, and respect.
The notion that a woman they are attracted to should be allowed to exist without dealing with their advances is viewed as an affront to their manhood.
After all, it is her obligation as an attractive woman to give every guy who gets a boner at her the time of day. If she didn't want to deal with their advances, she shouldn't have existed in public and looked attractive.
It's why I'm still convinced the Block button is the biggest advance in Feminism in the last 25 years. For the first time, women can exist and socialize in public mixed gender spaces, and even if a man wants her attention, she can say No, and actually enforce the boundaries without any risk to her safety.
EDIT: And no, I'm not going to give y'all any "not all men" cover here. Try that one on me, and my block list will gain another line.
No, I mean the standard progression of things in online dating.
Using an app to get virtually introduced to other people who look interesting, getting to know them via messaging, talking on the phone/video a few times, then meeting in public places until we both feel comfortable being together in private.
A complete stranger coming up to me while I'm out running errands or at the gym or at the bookstore or just trying to enjoy a concert is going to be an absolute hard NO. I don't care how hot they are, how good their pickup lines are, what crowd of friends they have with them.
Maybe some girls will like that sort of thing, but that is just NOT the way I am comfortable meeting people and getting to know them. Either we've met as strangers online and become not strangers virtually first, or we are introduced to one another via a mutual connection or friend, and thus aren't complete strangers. Those are the two pathways I allow.
Politics has been inexorably intertwined with tech ever since ancient hominids used a tool to accomplish a task for the first time hundreds of thousands of years ago.
But ALSO, people's objections to the Brave leadership aren't "political" disagreements unless you want to consider people's human rights "political".
@irenes@impactology I'm reminded of the saying - something like "science progresses one funeral at a time". Basically meaning that progress in a field is stalled and stagnated by the power of the "giants" of the field who want to defend and maintain the relevance of their innovations in their generation. The field never progresses until after they/their cronies die.
If your platform bans consenting adults posting pictures of their own bodies and their interactions with other consenting adults bodies but does not ban Nazis, you can't tell me that you don't censor content. You do censor content, you're just okay with Nazis.
The admins here have decided that it should be up to us, the individual users of infosec.exchange whether to interact with Threads or not, and to be quite honest, that aligns with my belief of what will be the best path for the Fediverse as well.
At this point in time, I have no plans to leave infosec.exchange as my primary fediverse account. I'll miss all my friends who live on "fedipact instances", but I honestly don't think that having a fediverse schism is the right path forward.
Transitive fediblocks are simply bad policy. Different people are going to have different risk profiles, use-cases, and needs for how they want to interact with others within the fediverse and/or other networks. Unless your instance has gone "allow-list federation only", people who don't like you could still manage to find your content and harass you, even if you've transitive fediblocked everyone who you know of who hasn't blocked threads.
I neither like, nor trust Meta's intentions in allowing Fediverse connections to Threads, but I don't think a schism is going to do anything more than make the Fediverse an even more opaque and difficult place to encourage people, organizations, and companies to join.
Y'all are going to make your own decisions, I'm making mine, and I may change my mind in the future. @jerry may change his mind. Who knows.
Peace to everyone, and see ya on the flip side. Or not. Your choice, I'll still be here for a while.
There should be a thing where ADHD folks can trade projects once they hit that 80% done wall where it's mostly done, but no longer novel or interesting. It's plenty exciting helping a buddy out with their project, though. So you each get a project to 80%, then trade.
Nah, even at corps where I've got RSUs or whatever, I don't care about our stock price. It's just deferred wages. I know I'm such a tiny meaningless cog in a giant machine that my specific labor has almost zero bearing on the rich people's feelings number about my corp, so I'm going to not actually put any emotional attachment about how much motivation I have for my work vs. the rich peoples' feelings number.
