    Not sure what you two are jawing bout, but Napoleon Courvoisier and cognacs, and anything fermented or distilled from Moscato wine are definitely not gay regardless jut how smooth they are.

    I started harvesting wine as soon as I was able to carry any weight, and started drinking wine soon after that.

    Real men drinks Moscato wine or anything distilled from it!

    Here is the list by the OP:

    - PulseAudio / Pipewire
    - Gnome
    - GTK4
    - Wayland
    - dbus
    - NetworkManager
    - A messaging system that’s not federated
    - Linux-specific software (e.g. Docker)

    @dcc Guess how many barebone install of Debian have any of this? Its only dbus, the rest maybe turned off at start if cannot just entirely removed. At my use-case there is absolutely nothing wrong with the init system used, of even with the default compiled kernel.

    I honestly do not understand the "A messaging system that’s not federated" item - something like RabbitMQ, something non-routed like cjdns, something like I2P, Zot/ZAP?

    So you get no support from me one way or the other. Your bone with tis over tat is really insignificant, considering that all you need to do is build your own.

    I do not have that choice, I am 100% limited by the upstream.

    Most of us "users" rely on the upstream.

    I was around for the first release of Devuan, I even installed it and it was good. But I had to stick with Ubuntu because I just refurbished some HP servers I cannot even remember the Generation, but MAAS was also so cool.

    I have been using Debian as long as I remember, and I started with Slackware on 5" floppies in 1993.

    You need to communicate in a way where users understand your concerns. Today I build YunoHost servers on Debian, rooted on BIND servers on Debian, MTAs on Debian, all as lean and mean as possible. I build some of this on ProxMox - a LOT of Debian-based 512 MB 10GB LXC containers, a LOT of upstream.

    There is only bad faith, which is not at all that difficult to evidence.

    Western Civilization is an ethical Society, and bad faith in ethical societies are valid complaints. Professional, trained and licensed entities violating necessary transparency and good faith are ought to get called out.

    This is not in the "Constitution" either, yet ethics is The Foundation in 21st Century everything - business, law, education, even warfare.

    @nicholas is correct on all accounts here, this is not my personal opinion. The Laws of Physics and the Laws of Limited Resources (I made this one up) is the best regulation of "business".

    The rest will self-deport. Nobody is saying the quiet part out, but now that all incentives have stopped, and the consequences paramount self-deportation is a predictable and reliable outcome.

    Just like the birth right citizenship nonsense. The mother is illegal, so after birth she has a choice to make: she can take her baby with her, or chose to abandon her baby - but she is deported.

    I find it amusing that the result of banning Trump from every platform resulted him creating Truth Social, with a lot of folks who followed him and got banned moving to Truth Social.

    You cannot "ban" people, all you do is force them to balkanize elsewhere. You are pissing them off, and now they will hate you more.

    The EU is being itself, one more one-size-fits-all "solution" and one more sweeping regulations.

    In the US we love the fact that proprietary solutions to fully optimize, and fit the technology to the purpose is still alive.

    Manufacturers are welcome to install or add USB-C, and consumers are still welcome to "vote" with their wallets.

    USB-C still have the problem with receptors wearing out and the connection becomes too lose. Barrel connectors better deal with that issue, not to mention they can surpass power ALLOWED by the USB-C standard. Bluetooth and inductive power is also a competitive combination. Etc...

    If you are already operating your own node you are doing all that is necessary to help the fedi thrive. We cannot help the way people behave so its not worth the effort, but I personally very much appreciate every owner-operator. We would not have this network, the Fediverse, if there were no small, single-user nodes.

    A lot of people do not understand or do not appreciate just how important the small nodes are to the Fediverse.

    Zot and ZAP, in their current level of development, are superior to AP. Nomadic identity is huge, I think AP has some layers that would have something comparable if it was developed and deployed.

    My approach to "federation" is more flexible, I count the owners of nodes as an indicator, accepting even tech like I2P or IPFS as "federation".

    Technological competence and know-how is far more important than the "user", the "account". Coming to the Fediverse to talk about shit, rant and rave - anyone can do that. But underpinning the (IMHO) most important network is essential, or the "internet" going to become centralized around corporate fuckery.

    I have high hopes for blockchains, but I am also terrified that it will shift the "ownership" of the "internet" to the owners of truly massive data centers.

    Its a complex picture, but currently the owners of nodes are the owners of this network.

    The traditional LUG never tried to solve problems either. PKT and blockchains are going to succeed based on the fact that only individuals who are qualified going to participate.

    Think about this.

    Fediverse was targeted by jurnos, not understanding that "Mastodon" is a very tiny part of the Whole. The Fediverse is sustained by owner-operators, by people who have not only the money and the know-how - but also bring their own PURPOSE.

    You cannot attack a community that is independent, that is free of control by money, by technology, by purpose.

    Look at cjdns, PKT and Anode this way.

    Precisely. Anode requires that you TRAIN YOURSELF in the relevant technologies, and so is PKT and all the blockchains.

    Nail hit on head saying the only technology you can trust is the one you control. Your focus might be different, but my focus is to start migrating the DNS-based internet into something like https://github.com/cjdelisle/cjdns

    If you find Anode "stupid" you are not entirely familiarized with the potential to steer away from the Cisco IP routers. You do not accept the fact that IPv6 is a cluster-fuck, where the architects forgot the fact that routing an "unlimited pool" will be a "challenge".

    When you pair this with your own PKT node it is a game-changer, you become the ISP. This Fediverse node, pkteerium is hosted by its lead developer. I am just a guest here, but I have the Mini and I helped test Anode.

    I still use my own VPN routed over my own Debian nodes, but if you do not know how to do that Anode is something you want to try.
