But we’re also taught not to be a “tall poppy” or a teacher’s pet, lest we become a target. So receiving an honor is simultaneously a thrill and a trigger to suddenly declare humility.

@inthehands I think it is traditional (at least among European descendants) to debase oneself when honored. “I am not worthy”, “my team deserves the credit, not me”, “God did this”, etc.

@starwall @Adam_Cadmon1 Fwiw many black blocs have organized shield walls, and shield construction is featured in the planning of many street actions. One popular option is to cut down 55 gallon plastic water barrels. Two shields per barrel—light, unbreakable, and liquid proof.

I’ve taught my cat to ring a bell when he wants food. I suppose most people would think he rings it all the time, but no! He just hunkers over the bell, waiting, watching, relishing his newfound center of power.

@inthehands Right up until the literal moment Trump won, every single pundit was yawning that nobody took such a clown seriously and the election results would prove what a joke his campaign was.

@inthehands My understanding is that youtube videos pass a certain monetization threshold at 8 minutes, which is why a one minute idea is presented after several minutes of blather.

For podcasts, how many of them have more than five minutes of actual information or new developments? Yet the makers need to make it seem like they’ve got a whole show, in fact a channel full of whole shows, so you will subscribe.

@futurebird @irenes I just watched a season of Survivor from a few years ago where one of the twists was the player who found a secret “advantage” could only activate it by reciting a nonsensical made-up proverb in front of all the other players, who had no idea what that was about. The reciter had to really act and make it sound like an authentic saying, in order to not have their secret discovered.

@inthehands @Adam_Cadmon1 I saw Volcano when it came out, and I thought it was okay; it wasn’t till I rewatched it years later (as more of an adult) that I appreciated the layers.

Awesome. I set up a #PixelFed account, started posting on it regularly, put a link to it on my website, and then the host either went down or nuked my account somehow. Annoying as shit, especially because I liked the “professional” sound of the host name social.photo.

@Adam_Cadmon1 @robertnorlyn Robbie I’ll say what Adam declined to: it is frankly obvious that the idf has not now or ever intended to make surgical strikes, because their explicit goal is to eliminate Palestinians and seize all of their land. Focusing on them “doing precision strikes wrong” misses the whole point of what’s happening.
