@mischievoustomato The pointing device and physical mice keys array is the only reason I buy ThinkPad. If Lenovo ditches those from the line to make ThinkPads just like literally any other laptop on the market I would never buy another ThinkPad. There are much better (from hardware & price) laptops out there, but what keeps me buying ThinkPads are that they are ThinkPads.

Lenovo is planning to ditch the pointing-device and physical mice keys from future ThinkPads in a bid to make the ThinkPad line "more appealing to younger audiences".

@mischievoustomato Windows is too ubiquitous as it comes pre-installed on virtually every off-the-shelf computer and has entrenched itself as the "de facto" OS. Even then, normies struggle to use it. Good luck getting normies to switch to Linux. @Shadowman311

@mischievoustomato I'd rather just have the physical partition. I've got the space for it. Get better performance out of it and guaranteed functionality with peripherals and stuff since I'm using it specifically to interface with external audio hardware and stuff. Just didn't want any headaches and already had the Windows product key on-device and an install USB. Just simpler and easier than the whole VM approach. @teratology @VIPPER @griffith @creamqueen

@mischievoustomato @teratology @VIPPER @griffith @creamqueen I run Debian and Windows. Windows only for RekordBox. Everything else Debian. Debian runs dramatically better than Windows, both insofar as functionality/productivity but also stability. I don't really "get" the sentiment from people that Linux doesn't work or whatever because I consistently have a better and more pain-free experience on Linux than I do on Windows.

@sun It consistently blows my mind how many people don't know how to behave on airlines. I hate flying commercial. I always think about going into commercial aviation and then I have to fly on commercial or go through a commercial airport terminal and deal with the unwashed masses and quickly decide "yeah, no, fuck this". I hate our passengers as it is, I don't know how I'd stomach hundreds of them on a daily basis. I should get into cargo. Fuck human beings.

@mischievoustomato @lizzy Framework is interesting and I continue to follow their progress periodically and contemplate them as a "maybe one day" upgrade whenever I am due for a new machine. I'd never buy a MacBook, for what it's worth. I don't need nor want to go into a long, exhaustive essay as to why MacBooks sucks and Apple sucks, etc.---they just suck and I cannot recommend them in any way whatsoever.

I would seriously recommend checking out newer laptops coming out with Lunar Lake CPUs in them from Intel. AfaIk there are a couple from Asus that have been released and Lenovo has a Thinkpad X1 that's coming out with it. They're promising things like 18 hours of battery life.

If they want to continue solely relying on the Google Play Store than they are only enabling and furthering this sort of behavior from Google and associated payment processors. @jimmybuffettfanaccount
