Agree. The life of a musician has always been fairly high stakes of course - my main focus in life and politics is that, while I *do* think that choosing the life of an artist is one that requires sacrifices, it should *not* require you to sacrifice basic dignity and security (house, food, etc).

The only solution is that society must provide those basics to all with no constraints. Those who want to fly jets must earn it, but poets should be free to just write poetry.

The argument for staying on substack seems to be mostly "this is how I make (some of) my living."

It's valid, and it's understandable that you have found yourself unwittingly placed in that position.

That being said, is it your assertion that you intend to stay there and *not* start making plans to both get yourself out of that trap, and also, see to it that you never get stuck in a similar evil corral in the future?

We can get there, together. Folks are working on things. Be willing.

This system or that system is not what saves us from fascism. At some point we are all going to have be in the streets against them. Cause as you say, they don't respect norms.

We can pass laws, but we also have Signal, soon we will have @VeilidNetwork as well. You actually *can't* do it so whether you should is moot.

We don't beat them by becoming them, we beat them with unity and real action. Voting won't save us, they don't respect that either.

Anywhere there are people, people will do people things.

What this does is remove the megaphone from the hands of billionaires. That is not everything, but it is definitely something.

The fact many people still are stepping up to shout into the billionaires' megaphone is a thing that will take time, along with whatever else it takes.

This alone is definitely not sufficient, though, that's for sure.

The only good thing about Dave Chappelle is Charlie Murphy. Every one of my whitey friends was all gaga about his show where it looked to me like he was doing a minstrel routine for white guys who want to believe all black people are on crack and whatnot.

I'm not here to say what he meant to people who are not white dudes comfortable with throwing racist slurs around "as a joke". But I know what they were getting out of his show.

He does indeed "know the whites".

But if you're not contributing to the operation of the instance, and that instance is not selling your attention, why should the operator consider you at all?
