meaning i used to subvert my masculinity with pink, but NOW i subvert my masculinity with pink but im a girl

but for real.

the old masculinity was a default. an accident of birth. it was assumed. trying to subvert it, i was dodging something unobserved but theorized to exist.

the new masculinity is chosen. constructed lovingly by hand. and, here’s the secret, it’s not even masculinity at all, it’s nonbinary queer femininity—it just looks like masculinity in a world ruled by the gender binary. subverting it is deliberate and precise and authentic, everything the old subversions weren’t.

@cwebber i also really like this piece of writing on the topic, which touches on how one reason this topic is so important to trans people is *because* kurt never explicitly identified as trans. we as a community *know* that we’ve lost siblings who never had the chance to realize who they were, because so many of us can see how that was almost us. and assumptions of “cis until proven otherwise” erase that.

one, regardless of whether kurt was precisely a “trans woman”, the facts of his life basically place him under the trans umbrella somewhere. we can’t say how he’d identify if he were around now but we can describe the life he led as being genderqueer without any kind of speculation.

two, with everything we know about kurt, i imagine that even if he was cis that he would *love* all his trans fans pissing off bigots by calling him trans posthumously 😈

it’s not that i don’t think i could be a luthier. it’s that i don’t think i could make any money being a luthier. i spent all afternoon getting this rather pointless detail juuuuust right, totally by hand from scratch, for no other reason than i enjoyed doing it.

@mattly yeah JLC. did you use the cheap shipping or the fedex/ups option? fedex/ups is supposed to be prepaid tariff but from what i was reading online it seems like a lot of packages sent the cheap way end up not getting billed too. (i got the cheap shipping lol)

anyway they let me stack coupons this time and somehow i got five of these echo PCBs, all SMT populated, for just under $10 shipped. 😳 i’ve never had a pcb+assembly come out that cheap.

sounds like it’s a crapshoot if it comes with a tariff bill or not. but the declared value should be like $7.50 so even if i get hit with a 200% bill from customs it is still about what i expected to pay in the first place.

something i dont think a lot of tech workers have figured out yet: the tech industry isn’t in the business of making tech products anymore. they’re a banking/advertising empire with tech as a front business.
