sorry to tell you guys, I told them that, I wanted that, and I wasn’t kidding, but I didn’t know about neurotypes, and I think I had an NT wife and one NT kid and the ex wasn’t having it and nobody told me anything. Kids grew up and told me they, “had to,” lie to me all my life instead, and meanwhile the ex wasn’t having it and making all the mistakes and telling them they were my idea, and don’t talk to him.

So I said that, as you say, but the ex said the opposite - and the NT parent won with the kids. I hope this is only me and not your life, but I will never believe anything any NT person ever says again, they lie like they breathe. They are not interested in kind parenting.

right, I see that. My story has another step, I guess, I'm old enough that nobody probably knew from Autism, last of the boomers - but they never told me I was a Thalidomide baby, what deformities I knew about, I never heard anything about a cause for, plus there were less obvious problems.

The point is that if I had known I was in that tiny minority, I would have at least heard the world, "Autism," at some point. There's a lot of brain problems with Thalidomide, and like they do, they called it, "Autism," so I would have found the ideas.

Alright, I’m not too bright, but I’m not all that stubborn about it.

When I converted this twice end-of-life guitar to a bolt on neck (because Framus made skinny necks for child students and I have AA battery fingers), I installed the block that takes the bolts poorly, and now, four or five years later, the block has crumbled.
.
I’ve spent a few weeks trying to shore it up, but I did it all backwards, patched the top of the block first and moved the bottom around last, all wrong, I didn’t know how bad it was, did it all wrong and now I finally see something different, but anyway it’s not working and it’s back to the drawing board, I’m going to wash all of that, conversion and repair, away, start all over with nothing but a great gaping hole where the neck ought to be.

If I can manage that without destroying it a lot further, I can do something proper.

1. Guitar is drying out the finish is sort of flat again
2. I don’t think I’m fixing the top.
3. The only piece of lumber in the store big enough for the block was a chunk of Western Maple, so that’s what I’m using and I spent today taking a slice off of it to patch the guitar’s side panel around the neck.

I wasn’t at all sure that was going to work. I glued the new chunk to a board for support first, so it wouldn’t chip away from the saw and took my slice beside the board, and had to spend some time getting the board off again, but it worked. Not uniform, but thick enough. 😀

so I cast around, looking for options, thought about a new joint and neck from Stew Mac, but it's just too much, I don't want to size another one, make another fretboard, and basically I'm just back to starting over, same way, an old style mounting block, my existing neck.

First I'm going to do everything I can to stabilize and strengthen this box, add some braces, stick everything I've broken and messed with back together. If that ever feels good, I want to either replace that ruined bit of the top between the hole and the neck and then try to get my luthier to stick a proper joint and neck on it, or custom carve a new old style mounting block. I think I have a greatly improved plan about how to do it, the order of operations:

it will be a block in three pieces, instead of two, a bespoke piece fitted in the bottom, or back (already begun), and another at the top, both cut diagonally, so I can marry it all with a wedge in the middle, then drill and dowel them together from the top, I mean the front, in the hole where the neck will go. Yes?

I still want to replace that ruined bit of the top, fix around the sound hole, it's like wet paper, got to do it for structure. 😈

I'm adding bracing now, I guess the next thing after that is getting that bit off, that will be depressing, destroying the rosette. 😈

I’m apparently unable to stop staying busy and feeling my hands go numb, so today I went the other direction, try some some damned exercise on the old bod, I was on the saw for hours this morning, and I was saying to myself constantly, Let the saw do the work, but it didn’t work out that way, it was three or four hours with the saw stuck the whole damned time mostly because I only have a few tools and no saw to get right through the 4”x 4” at one pass 🙄🤨

Been a good day on the project guitar. Trying not to spend money, so far I bought some screws, a can of spray lacquer, and the block of wood, but I wasn’t able to cut the bloody thing, so I bought a new backsaw, another $20, and finally I was able to start shaping the block with that.

The repairs and the reinforcement to the body are all done, and the block is happening, I’m scared to do what I’m doing, but I’m doing it. 😬💜

developing a strange and ambitious plan for this block, it suddenly hit me that if I did replace that part of the top, where the joint was replaced before and I keep making it worse, I could drop the new block in all in one piece while it was off, and that wasn’t enough to move me, but then I realized I could just fill that space with the top of my new block too, that I wouldn’t need another piece of spruce, or even to cut another slice of maple for it, but simply make my block a little deeper, right up to the top, and then my top would be a single piece of spruce again, sort of, by simply throwing away the broken bits.

I can pick the grain to follow, make that side the top, and then I don’t have to support the broken bits with the block, possibly restricting the soundboard, it can float freely at that end of the guitar again, except at the edges, maybe just braces and the edges.

Looking forward to making another new and interesting mistake. 😀

But being able to build it all first out in the world and just drop it in at the end, that’s going to be worth a lot. Also, in the same vein, I can build the whole thing first, before I break anything, make sure I can be ready first. Got a real engineering sort of a plan about how to make sure it fits.
