A former US military intelligence official released a letter on Monday that explained to his colleagues at the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) that his November resignation was in fact due to “moral injury” stemming from US support for Israel’s war in Gaza and the harm caused to Palestinians.

Harrison Mann, an army major, would be the first known DIA official to quit over US support to Israel.

Man said he felt shame and guilt for helping advance US policy that he said contributed to the mass killing of Palestinians.

“At some point, whatever the justification, you’re either advancing a policy that enables the mass starvation of children, or you’re not,” Mann wrote.

Israel has killed in 6 months 3 times more Palestinians than the Russians have in 2 years in Ukraine, 70% of which were women and children, thus civilians.

I see no reason why Russia should be ban from the Paris 2024 Olympics and Israel wouldn't...beside the usual double-standard "get out of any situation creepy as it might" free card.

The fact that when trying to open an account on Mastodon, mastodon.social is imposed by default is really bothering me.

When advocating Mastodon to my friends, I mostly use the small size of serveurs and the "decentralized" argument.

What shall I say when they see mastodon.social has 300.000 "customers" ?

For decades on the West Bank, #Israeli settlers and the IDF soldiers who protect them have both denied #Palestinians access to their crops and ripped the trees from the ground to deny their caretakers a living. Because it takes a number of years after planting for new trees to bear fruit, it’s obvious why they do this.

Historically it’s often been the case that those who wanted to colonize a land used attacks on treasured resources to dispossess and even eradicate those reliant on them. To see this closer to home we need look no further than the 19th century campaigns in North America to wipe out bison populations, including one led by the US. army starting around 1870. This was done with the expressed purpose of forcing Indigenous peoples reliant on these herds onto reservations.

By taking away a peoples’ way of life like this, European colonizers attempted to degrade and eventually destroy their cultures. In Canada, and likely in the United States, what was done to indigenous people is often dismissed as something that happened, “long ago” (even as it continues in many places to the present day).
