But that’s irrelevant—the instance operator should consider their users because *it affects the users* and especially because in this context it costs the instance operator absolutely nothing.
The question is really “why shouldn’t users be given this agency?”
Does it cause harm? Is there a technical hurdle? Does it undermine or mitigate some other abuse-prevention mechanism? Is it philosophical?

Your agency, sir or other, is to move on if your instance's rules and defederations don't suit you.
How much luckier are you here, than on the other sites, where what they decide just goes and that's it, with no options whatsoever.
But if you're not contributing to the operation of the instance, and that instance is not selling your attention, why should the operator consider you at all?

@jpaskaruk I mean…people really, actually, literally *should* be entitled to agency in decisions that affect them, even if the king is ostensibly benevolent. I don’t understand why that would be a remotely controversial statement.

The king, in this case, being someone who exists under late stage capitalism and has decided to setup a space that contains their idea of good people only, and has put up their own money to make that happen, and has invited you into that space gratis to hang out.
How arrogant of the king. Who does he think he is?
