Every week I get another reason to be so damn happy that we got off of starlink. I am generally of the opinion that government should run fibre everywhere and offer it cheap, but since our governments are in the grip of monopolist scumbags, I'm glad that Valley Fibre took up the task and ran it up to here.

I hope they, or someone, goes all the way North. Even in its current degraded state, the internet is fundamental to social participation now.

Please explain this definition of "marrow" for civilized people, or I will assume that British people are the ones doing all that cattle mutilation, as it turns out to steal the bone marrow.

Pretty sure my Scottish ancestors won't have any problem believing that rumour.

I no longer have time for anyone who doesn't understand that it's us vs the rich. It has always been us vs the rich. It has never been us vs anyone but the rich.

I once butted heads with a buffoon who was basically a manifestation of a Will Ferrell manchild character, right down to looking exactly like Will Ferrell. He claimed to know IT stuff; he did not, but had convinced the COO that he did. I contradicted him on something, on the record, which a year later I was proven right about so he left me alone.

But, got to watch him get a [nonbinary] coworker that I liked quite a lot fired before they rumbled exactly how badly they had been played.

So I had this idea once that I thought maybe I'd make a website, but it would actually work better with our hashtags.

The situation: there are antique things, like my dresser, which are missing unique parts, like some of the pull handles on my dresser. No way I'm getting replacements at the hardware store.

There are probably more of them out there, though. In some shoebox in an antique shop in Forsythe Montana.

#AnyoneGotThis and #AnyoneNeedThis could be places to put stuff like that.

If it were to get support, CV could be used to scan for matches, and folks who are scrapping stuff that they know is not just late capitalist disposable trash they can offer it up.

People could make their own deals based on the actual value of the thing. I figure if someone were to send me pull handles that match my dresser, I'd buy them a very fancy coffee, at least, besides shipping and handling and time.

But I like the idea of it being a community thing we do, not a site you go to.

So here goes cause why not: anyone got one of this particular pull dingus? We got the dresser at a thrift and it's missing one, the top right one, which will be the one that got pulled the most. The rest seem just fine.

Have you heard about the dire compromises made by piano tuners? It is a devil's bargain, Orwellian mathematics to which we are so inured that our ears are twisted into believing a lie.

That being said, IF you are interested in a solid recommendation for internalizing the sacralized opinions of 18th Century aristocrat-chasing European musicians, might I suggest that you dedicate fifty or so hours to my personal musical Yoda, Dr. B.

What you're not supposed to do is what you are doing in this toot: saying there's no difference. In a word, horseshit. There is a difference.

They are not remotely progressive enough for anyone on Mastodon, but FFS can we please stop repeating this blatantly obvious bothsiderism?

And no, this particular election *is* a crisis - it determines whether or not Americans will ever have another one. That has not remotely been a danger in any previous one in my lifetime.

    Just don't.

Before you get too pissed, there's still the respect of calling you "media" in there. You're one of my daily reads.

But if you really care that much about this random opinion, you seem to have a fairly rosey view of the modern internet and what it has become, imo, with too much assumption that this is the only way it could have gone or should have gone.

Yes, 230 is fundamental to everything, and maybe that is not the self-evident win that you and Jack think it is. Look around.

I just adore how the techbro media has started using "activist investor" in the same way christian fascists used to complain about "activist judges" (though they don't seem to be so incensed about judges ruled by *some* bullshit ideologies).

The important thing here is that "activist" be associated with "bad people who want to ruin things".

Call them what they are, @mmasnick - capitalists.

This is why anyone who used the "genocide joe" a couple months back tag got a block/unfollow. I know an easily-manipulated bleating sheep when I see one.

I'm not honestly sure it's such a good idea for @pluralistic to keep writing novels. He's giving them too many ideas.

Cheers. I love that most of the things I like doing have people here who follow the hashtags. :>

Even that little tip, maybe I would've found it with google, or maaaaaaaybe I would've thought of it myself after many days of silly stuff, but being able to have someone casually glance at my post and go "look here and here and this is important context" with low effort on everyone's part is pretty much the Internet that I came here for.

Thank you, #Fediverse, for being here now. We need us.

It is also true that looking at polls this far out is an exercise in masochism, and even when the time is nigh, it's far from the best thing to be focusing on. I do my best to completely ignore the horse race discourse.

I've been increasingly resistant to revolutionary ideas the older I get, I assume because I am too old to take part in them and am likely to be collateral damage in one.

I also firmly believe that ruling classes tend to force them to happen, when they happen. I look around me and I can see that humans are incredibly tolerant of abuse of all kinds, but I also see how thin the rubber band is getting.

And of course, I've glanced at history, so this seems likely now.

Basic Income in a capitalist context will be negated fairly quickly, seems to me.

We need to embrace Socialism by name and without apology and make Capitalist the dirty word. Nothing less is going to stop them from creating misery for profit.
