   I have been tremendously lucky in my career, but I have absolutely seen men get paid more for the same or less work with the same or fewer qualifications and I have seen men praised as geniuses for behavior that gets me called a bitch.

     @evacide 100% this. It’s why fair pay agreements and Unions are so badly needed in technology.
     Just because the pay is above the average or median wage doesn’t mean it’s fair or right.

     I once butted heads with a buffoon who was basically a manifestation of a Will Ferrell manchild character, right down to looking exactly like Will Ferrell. He claimed to know IT stuff; he did not, but had convinced the COO that he did. I contradicted him on something, on the record, which a year later I was proven right about so he left me alone.

     But, got to watch him get a [nonbinary] coworker that I liked quite a lot fired before they rumbled exactly how badly they had been played.

     @evacide There definitely are some times I look back on and being a generic beardy white dude has been a boost to my credibility because I sort of look like somebody they expect to take seriously so I can get away with a lot.

     Currently doing a pivot from tech to making a movie and people just sort of accept that I have the ability to make a feature film. Which I do, just barely. But I think my women peers have had to fight to prove themselves more. I could just kinda YOLO into it.

     @wrosecrans Are you going to counteract on this?

     Will you invite female producers, will you hire female camera persons and so on?

     Will you pay your female staff equally or above male staff?

     I‘m curious, because it sounds like you‘ll be in a position to do so.
     And that would make a change, instead of just confessing.

     @evacide My wife got the same treatment. Her co-worker was hired with higher position. Also, she ended up mentoring the guy since he is not good with his job.

     @evacide I had a male colleague present my work at a presentation entirely as his own. When it came to answering questions he referred to me because I would know having typed it up!!!! 😠. But if you're going to do that at least read the work you've nicked or you can quite quickly look stupid! 🤦
