As Marcy Wheeler is saying "We know there's is going to be political violence in 2024".
The best thing we can do is acknowledge that, and prepare.

Honestly, I don't think you have to be all that smart to pass this test. Just be compassionate and humane.
If all you know is that you should care about others, it'll be a piece of cake. 🍰!
My high school paper was less fawning when writing about our football team.
To me, shunning and ostracizing means you refuse to have any more interaction with them.
And you've got instances where you've done that, and then the person has changed, and gotten back in contact with you?
I'd love to hear the details, because I'd have thought this very unlikely.

"I don't know which server to sign up on" is the very first "WTF this is confusing" that potential Mastodoners face.
If you have better, less confusing advice, than "just use mastodon.social", please share it.

How many replies does a typical post you make get?
@mastodonmigration @Teri_Kanefield @Popehat @mmasnick @mattblaze @GottaLaff
Sigh. I've been getting that feeling too.
You might want to add @TechConnectify to that list too. He just posted a multi-toot about how Mastodon is turning into a bummer for him.
And the obvious turd is the picture they chose.
I assume if a guy is caught embezzling they print a picture of him at church?

It feels worth remembering that Fox News was started after Nixon was kicked out of office, as Ailes thought that it wouldn't have happened if there had been a "news" source that right-wingers controlled. They're smart enough to have had the same thought about social media.
What I would find even nicer is a specific recommendation, like "If you are new to Mastodon, and want a place to start, right now is I'd suggest X."
Add all the caveats you want, but for most people the problem with Mastodon is too many choices. Your informed opinion is more valuable than a list of options.
he/him/his #nobridgeQuit Xitter, came here. Love the idea of social media not controlled by a corporation. I follow art, history, science, #Esperanto, #MardiPatisserie, and capybaras.I try to contribute to political action here, but end up very grumpy.
