Listen, I get that platform harassment sucks (have had death threats against myself & my *kids* while on Twitter ...) ... but if a person left Twitter for principled reasons, embracing Dorsey's platform (where there *will* be harassment as well) as a fallback makes no sense.

Just as a point of clarification, Bluesky users scared Jack off. He deleted his account and does not run the site or even have a presence there. He's off focused on a different tech entirely (nostr) after Bluesky management took things in a different direction than Jack wanted.

At this point I think the sorts of harassment that popular accounts experience are just impossible to sympathize with for most folks. Is that bad? No. I think it's hard for us to communicate the things that are bothering us.
But the lack of caring is... well I don't think it's very nice!

Meta quite literally enabled genocide in Myanmar. The Fediverse may require a greater degree of personal responsibility but supporting those companies by encouraging one's following to go there is, IMO, morally contemptible.

Man, this comment is irritating. It is not possible to have a conversation about the problems of Mastodon without self-satisfied sanctimonious wankers derailing that topic into a conversation about how much better Mastodon is than Twitter.
Mastodon will not continue to be better than Twitter if every time somebody tries to point out a problem with Mastodon, they're shut down with a smug conversation about how much better Mastodon is than Twitter.
And frankly, I find it absolutely infuriating how the Mastodon self-congratulation crowd thinks that Twitter is some sort of standard to beat. If Twitter is your standard then the bar is on the floor.

I'm not sure where it should go to in your opinion.
Here are many different people / accounts, some also unpredictable, and it's just impossible to predict or filter the desired or acceptable answers -- even of course blocking is possible.
I'm beyond the "self-congratulation" attitude, I blocked a whole type of people (unrelated to this discussion).

I said nothing at all about where I think "it", for any a number of plausible "it"s, should go. I am not discussing where I think "it" should go. I'm discussing how people are engaging with this conversation in a really shitty way, and I do not appreciate people trying to hijack the topic to something else.

I’m WAY too small an account (both here and even more so on BS) to personally get these issues. But I see a lot of posts on these issues on BS now.
The big issue is that people need to stop treating this like it’s a sport: “my team” v “your team”
