Always start with "Trump is corrupt".

Tariffs give him control over access to the huge US economy, so people have to do favors for him to get/maintain favorable access to it.

It's incredibly simple and obvious. I assume NYTimes, WaPo, and all the others haven't even put this forward as a possibility.

The best way to understand the current NYT, for me, is that it is trying its hardest to *not* report certain stories.

Its best use is as a negative guide: to understand our world one should look where it is emphatically not pointing.

I used to fall for people who confidently assert that "So-and-so would win if they would only adopt *my* position on *my* top issue".

I finally figured out that they don't know any more about getting elected than any of us, they're just more willing to state their wishes as facts.

Just so you know, I'm an old white dude, and I remember leaving the polling station in 2008 and thinking "I just got to vote for the first Black President!". (My "I just got to vote for the first woman President" in 2016 didn't go as well 😬.)

I wonder if there is a simple way to explain how ML training works to non-techy folk, so that they realize it's mostly just tweaking equations until they reproduce the corpus they are fed, and they're going to do their best to reproduce that corpus, biases and defects included?
