I finally figured out that they don't know any more about getting elected than any of us, they're just more willing to state their wishes as facts.

Just so you know, I'm an old white dude, and I remember leaving the polling station in 2008 and thinking "I just got to vote for the first Black President!". (My "I just got to vote for the first woman President" in 2016 didn't go as well 😬.)

I wonder if there is a simple way to explain how ML training works to non-techy folk, so that they realize it's mostly just tweaking equations until they reproduce the corpus they are fed, and they're going to do their best to reproduce that corpus, biases and defects included?

Is it? I haven't done a deep dive, but the impression I've gotten is that the text you create is yours and moveable, the "indexers" (I'm sure I'm using the wrong term there) will require so much computing power that it will probably be monopolized. And what good are our scribblings if no-one can find them and read them?
