I want people to build communities here. What you are proposing is what I've started calling "toxic individualism" - most Americans are taught this, and it's so pervasive that many of us don't even realize we are swimming in it.

But it prevents the many weak from coming together to protect themselves from the few powerful. I'm tired of being blandly atomized.

All social web app interfaces should include a button labeled "I'm not engaging", and when you click it it scrolls away from the item in question and rewards you with a small dopamine hit, like a cat pic or Bugs Bunny giving you a thumbs-up.

Tariffs give him control over access to the huge US economy, so people have to do favors for him to get/maintain favorable access to it.

The best way to understand the current NYT, for me, is that it is trying its hardest to *not* report certain stories.

I used to fall for people who confidently assert that "So-and-so would win if they would only adopt *my* position on *my* top issue".

I finally figured out that they don't know any more about getting elected than any of us, they're just more willing to state their wishes as facts.
