My grampa grew up in mississippi late 1950s. As a lil boy he said he remembered that he was real scared of any white people. The klan was real. His momma told him not to ever make eye contact with a white person coz his ass get beaten. Always cross the street let the white person go by. Never go in the front entrance to a store. So on #blackhistorymonth . Talking to my grandparents how much the church played out in they lives an shit. They both grew up in mississippi in the 1960's. Those church houses were like wooden huts and shit but they were like temples for black folk to gather round and fight the Klan.

So what he remembered. Church erry Sunday dressed up fine and shit. Kept separate from white folks .
He said he was scared to talk when white folks around because they could report him to the klan fo sum shit he said!
Any excuse and they feared they would be lynched! What a fking way to live. I can't get my head around that. This is recent USA history!

My grampa Talking to me more bout growing up in 1960's mississippi. He said black folk were completely separated. Signs everywhere ' colored' 'white'. As a kid he said he knew not to walk in a store thru the front, not to look a white person in the eye, cross the street to let a white person pass. So many rules apart from yall read bout separate drinking faintains and shit. Such a racist past the US has !

The one big story i always remember as a kid was Ruby Bridges. How she had to integrate into a white school after desegregation. How the parents of the white kids wouldn't let them in and she had to study on her own. As a black kid that really hit me I really felt for her. Ts always sticks with me.

Shit I just seen a documentary on Nina Simone. My bad I ain't heard of her before this. Damn she was a strong woman a real activist in the civil rights movement and her songs had real meaning.
