The slippery slope "fallacy" has been proven to be an effective tactic to shut down opposition to incremental enactment of unwanted policies and outcomes. In fact, I would argue that those proclaiming this as fallacious thinking are themselves are appealing to fallacious reasoning by simply declaring other outcomes as absurd. It also employs shaming tactics, where you use ridicule to suppress anyone who might see that the end outcomes are not so impossible as was implied by naysayers.

@sickburnbro That is yet another factor for why we such high levels of immigration. People already living in America have debt, so adding more people from other countries to the pool allows for more debt, thus kicking the can down the road. This will ultimately make things worse, as not only will there be more conflict in terms of the numbers of people, but also a worse rug pull when the system can no longer keep going.

@Fullmetal2255 >I'm a React developer so it only made sense
In the field of software engineering, one important part of your job is to not only know if something can technically be done, but also IF it should be done.

@Hoss anyone who is not a moron should know that when you pay hundreds/thousands of dollars for any "designer" brands you are not paying for the material and labor, but rather the brand name itself.
You could apply this to a lot of things. Too many people will pay extra just to say that they have [current trendy brand product].

Fun fact that will rile up anyone who has Trump Derangement Syndrome: Donald Trump had the total votes for him increase in every time he has run for President.

@Humpleupagus @VeganMGTOW @shortstories @Captain80s I have a feeling the original topic of discussion has been heavily derailed. I would lay the blame solely on Humpleupagus for this gem of a comment, but I will not make the same mistake that WW1 winners did by placing all the blame on Germany.

"The United States was built on slavery" is a silly premise even if it was objectively true (it's not). It asserts the idea that the only way any accomplishments that were (allegedly) done by slavery would not have been possible without slavery. If a specific building was created with the use of slave labor, it is not as if it would be impossible to create that same building in the absence of slave labor.

The same thing happens with "black inventions" when a black person just so happens to be a part of a team that created an invention. I don't buy for a second that every member of a team trying to create something is always unique and irreplaceable. Especially not someone who is merely playing a support role in the process.

@sickburnbro @PunishedD @Chzikken_1486 they never expected any states of their Blue Wall to be up for grabs, so they did not consider the need to "fortify" in Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania. Which is why Trump was able to win in 2016.

If I ever see or hear the words "you are voting against your interests", my response is this:
So tell me what my interests are.
The person making the initial assertion will either need to know me very well to accurately assess how I should change my voting patterns to align with my interests or they should admit that they do not actually know my interests.
And if they admit this, then how can they state that I am voting against my interests when they do not have knowledge of them?

@Humpleupagus @Dudebro @Silverwolf ask these same people what they think the minimum wage should be, and ask them what they think the illegal aliens get paid for their work. Chances are that they are holding on to too many contradictory principles that cannot coexist.
Not that they care, as they just want to score points on the "MAGAs." Apparently illegals can live without a "living wage."

@lain Apparently a private company cannot do what they want. They only can do what they want when happens to align with the desires of the deep state. And if they go against what the deep state wants, they get lawfared out the ass suddenly.

@Humpleupagus @ForbiddenDreamer @deprecated_ii though seriously, being short is not a death sentence when it comes to relationships. It just makes it more difficult to even get past phase 1 of getting a date.
I know it is possible to achieve as I am also married and 5'7". But I make up for it with my Aspergers making it even harder to socialize.

@Humpleupagus @cjd Better looking women also have a better chance of attracting men who earn more. And if she has a couple of brain cells to rub together, she will realize that having higher taxes on his earnings will mean less money available for her (assuming the least charitable outlook on a woman marrying such a man).
And bonus points if she is influenced by his (most likely) right wing politics.

@BowsacNoodle @Marakus @Rhodesian_YuKari @Shadowman311 When I used to be on Reddit, I got quite a bit of ire when I stated that the idea of a "deaf culture" was absurd when the topic of their "culture" came up.
I know I should not be surprised, but I was not on an overtly lefty part of Reddit with that thread.

@p @judgedread speaking of sex not guaranteeing children, I recall some talk about how lock downs would lead to a baby boom since people "have nothing else to do." Well no surprise, there was no baby boom, since this is not like the 50s where we have more married couples, no birth control, and less electronic entertainment. The people who unironically thought there would be a baby boom were fools.
