     @Marakus @Rhodesian_YuKari @Shadowman311 Deaf people formed a crab bucket community that shuns cochlear implants and other therapies to restore hearing. It's actually really screwed up and should've been a warning of what AGP troons would do the moment they had one iota of societal support.

     @Rhodesian_YuKari @Marakus @Shadowman311 "AI" is at the point where on the fly captioning should be rather simple. Translation via text would be one of the best uses of an augmented reality type system, especially something simple like a Google Glass type setup. Maybe another system with some translucent silicone rings tied to a speaker to allow them to "talk" with other people, and maybe have that display the text on the eyepiece so they can confirm its accuracy.

     @Marakus @BowsacNoodle @Shadowman311 Now that I remember, I don't understand how they think that using genetic engineering to prevent hereditary deafness is equivalent to genocide. Sure, it might erode the necessity of sign language, but that's more a tool born out of necessity than actual culture, and they barely have enough translators as is.

     @BowsacNoodle @Marakus @Rhodesian_YuKari @Shadowman311 When I used to be on Reddit, I got quite a bit of ire when I stated that the idea of a "deaf culture" was absurd when the topic of their "culture" came up.

     I know I should not be surprised, but I was not on an overtly lefty part of Reddit with that thread.

I could see them having their own culture from having a shared disability, but to defend their goofy crab bucket mentality is peak Reddit. As if deafness ending within a generation or two would be a bad thing for humanity.
