    But that brings up the big issue with crock-pot meals: no matter what is put in, it all tastes the same. The contents could be put through a blender and drank through a straw and the dining experience would be the same.

    @pepsi_man @Evil_Bender @sickburnbro It can be turned into biodiesel. It can be made to work but it just doesn't have the same energy density of a regular crop (corn). Also, hemp's time has unfortunately come and gone because synthetic rope/fabric making materials are superior still.

    A poison is in the dose to be sure, but that's a really long time. Our food/weight issues seem much more recent.

    @MeBigbrain @Dudebro @Hoss @get @straphanger A critical road close to me was completely overhauled with new bike lanes put in, in an area where they're completely unusable (I've never seen bike 1 on it). The reason? Pete BootyGig was only doling out federal grant money for "shovel ready road projects" if the project had a bike lane. So it was either put in a useless bike lane or get no money to redo the road.

    @sickburnbro I was unable to find it on his site, but Derbyshire had a (of course) Chinese parable related to this. It went that a man's family was suffering through yet another Chinese famine and their stretched resources were covering the care of his decrepit father. The man put his father in a box and resolved to dump the box over the cliff. As he was about to do so his father said "Wait! Keep the box, your son will need it".

    @sickburnbro I listened to the Auron McIntyre bit where they discussed this as, I guess, Moldbug had gone over it. The TDLR is that the civil service laws are an unconstitutional usurpation of Executive powers. From Wikipedia it looks like (of all people) W. Bush made a half-hearted stab at reforms which (obviously) stopped when he left office.

    It's interesting as the original implementation used strict civil service exams to appoint/hire D.C. mandarins but since those have been gone for decades we basically have all the ills of the pre-1870 system but with only one side legally able to appoint their own people.
