@evan Yes. And I have to buts. First but is that citizens should probably consider paying taxes to some other entity. Reviving the good old progressive party membership fee, where you give some of your income to a revolutionary party that also organizes for social needs, could be an idea. The other but is that I don't want my yes to imply that taxes are some kind of exchange with the government (I give you taxes, you give me services), because that undermines other values.
@evan I chose their actions. This one was difficult for me. I like the idea that all of the above are relevant when we evaluate each other. But only choosing one of them, I would say actions are more important. And the other criteria, I actually use to get a sense of how they will act.
Today I learned that there's an oil spill off the US coast that has been going on since 2004 and, somehow, in the system of capitalism, no one has been able to get things done and fucking close the spill. The reserves are great enough for it to continue for at least a 100 years more. It is still going on, spilling up to a 100 barrels of oil into the ocean every day. The market economy is a fucking joke. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taylor_Energy_oil_spill
@badrihippo Since I'm still being mentioned in this thread, I'll chip in and say that treating symptoms is vastly underrated among radicals in my experience :D Almost by definition, the trap of focusing solely on "root causes" is you can miss the obvious stuff to deal with right in front of you, like those actual billionaries - assholes that have a name and an address. E.g. going after Bezoz at his wedding in Venice can have structural effects too @notclacke@ted@evan@ghostdancer@screwturn
Another simple answer that often doesn't get aired: "Why are so many countries around the world just ignoring what is happening in Gaza?" - "Because of racism. That's the simple answer, I would say."
The inspiring thing with Thunberg is actually her use of anger. She doesn't "act it out" in sudden outburst of aggression without thinking her actions through. She remains cool, calm and collected, but it doesn't take away the focus and intensity of her righteous anger. Quite the opposite. If anything, she's a woman on a mission. And she's using her anger psychologically in the most appropriate way possible.
I say this because most adults can learn a thing or two about the way she uses anger to shove away the bullshit and see reality more clearly. There's so much noise interfering with the simple fact that Israel is committing a genocide, that European states are supporting Israel to do it and that our media continue to make that possible by parroting Israeli press releases https://theintercept.com/2025/05/25/how-to-write-about-palestine
Greta Thunberg continues to be one of the most mature voices in mainstream media. After having arrived in Paris, a journalist asks her what she has to say about the American tyrant's comment that "She's an angry woman that needs anger management". Thunberg's answer is short and sweet: "Well, I think the world needs a lot more angry women, especially with everything going on right now."
@evan I realize I don't know actually. I'm less than quarterly for going to a chatbot looking for answers. But I use translators like Google Translate and DeepL perhaps weekly. They would qualify as LLM right?
@evan This inspires me to take a perspective from Yvonne Agazarian. I think the correct word would be self-centeredness. And then, to not only take things personally (which is dysfunctional self-centeredness), we need a connection to our various memberships in communities (friends, neighbors, colleagues, topics). The life force comes from the body and is at the center (self), but development of that energy happens when we go out and take a membership in community with others.
Why is Elon Musk taking so much #ketamine these days? I'm not interested in sarcastic answers here. Only sober drug analysis. (And this is not sarcastic either, if you wondered). #ElonMusk#Drugs
@askkatzeff That sounds pretty likely to me. The reason I ask is also that I don't have that much experience with ketamine (and none taking it). It's an anxiolytic though, i.e. it reduces anxiety. Anxiety is extremely common in depression, so it supports your thought. It raises other questions: What is Musk anxious about? We might never know. And is the ketamine paradoxically provoking him to be even more anxious? (Strong anxiolytic drugs like benzos have that withdrawal effect).
@rasmusfleischer Jag lyssnar mycket på NTS också. Jag trodde också de var oberoende, men blev tyvärr uppmärksammad av @lillenicxx att Universal har köpt dem.
