Now on Patreon: Black anarchism, abolition and the radical tradition, with William C Anderson in conversation with Elia Ayoub for The Fire These Times - with a new introduction for Black History Month.
This is not good: Apple ordered to open encrypted user accounts globally to UK spying. The secret order would give the UK access to encrypted backups belonging to any user — not just Brits.
Don’t let the worst people in our societies benefit from the Trump momentum. Even if they lose in the end they can cause a lot of suffering. We can minimize those. Any single life saved is worth it.
Don’t cede any grounds anywhere to transphobia and racism. If you’re seeing this becoming normalised where you work or live resist it. I know there are caveats to this depending on how vulnerable you are, but apply this general rule.
Please don’t confuse Trump says or Trump wants with the US having the capacity to do the thing Trump says or wants. What he’s proposing is monstrous, but not surprising. It’s the logical next step of existing US policy, and it has a long track record of failing.
My worry isn’t even just the threat itself, but the pain and suffering he can cause even if it ultimately fails. Again, the US military has a long track record of failing to achieve its own stated goals, and this would be unlike anything they’ve ever tried.
My worry is basically that the US is unable to do anything effectively besides mass destruction. That’s the only thing the US state has been good at for a long time now. Them ‘failing’ in Gaza would still mean more widespread horrors.
Out this Tuesday on the Patreon, I ask what does it mean to lose the future? through an exploration of Maher Abi Samra's 'We Were Communists' (2011) about four men who were in the Lebanese Communist Party
Also, yes I know it would probably be better for me to know how to use Linux, but I am actually dogshit at that stuff. Not saying it's a never for me. I just haven't found a way to make it work for me (I'm not as tech-savy as I might seem to some)
I just recently decided I will make the existing tech I have work for me even if it means spending hours going through forums to figure out how to get older sh*t that worked way better than newer sh*t. It's incredible how much control over our own purchased products we have lost in 10-15 years.
I downloaded old iTunes. I'm struck by how much more customizable it is than Apple Music and the rest of it.
My iPod is also 17-year-old. 120GB. Works perfectly. Even got a Bluetooth adapter. No ads, no subscriptions, no tracking. Just a durable, functional device. Enshittification is real.
The Israelis have already shot dead a child in Gaza. A sniper shot him dead in Rafah and then proceeded to shoot at a man who tried to drag the child's corpse away. I saw the video.
3 Palestinians have so far been killed, and 9 injured - since the 'ceasefire'.
