@EmergencyJoe @cobalt123 @StillIRise1963 Currently expect a 1 year wait to get disability payments (SSDI) because the system being overloaded. If you have certain conditions, such as a TBI or dementia it goes much faster. But cutting people who will evaluate SSDI applications will just kill people.

SSA has an appeal system if you are denied and if you make it all of the way the final judges tend to approve appeals because they have like 5 minutes to review each case.

@WarnerCrocker My first question is how much is egg production down. I've read 2-3% but not verified. The egg business in the US is a cartel that reacts to threats of anti-monopoly government action, which won't happen. So we don't know how much egg price increases are due to lower production vs. cartel price manipulation.

@kims @anguinea I checked and the passport renewal page is back online.

If you reach a government web page that is down don’t panic. I had trouble this morning with ssa . gov but then tried another device and browser and it worked. Restarting the browser didn't help.

If that doesn't work switch the DNS you are using.

Still doesn't work ask others their experience. In today's environment do say you are worried that it was taken down. Then share what others have told you.

@WarnerCrocker My wife is in Assisted Living Memory Care. Assisted Living can mean lots of things but overall it means she gets assistance. She may be capable of Actvities of Daily Living and dealing with her own medications, or not. Memory Care, which is more of a euphemism, is generally locked down and the person cannot leave on their own and has some disability, often Alzheimer’s, but not always. But sounds like she was capable of fulfilling the duties of her office.

@WarnerCrocker I suspect that her family wanted to continue collecting her salary and office expenses. I've been dealing with dementia issues since 2009 and money is a huge factor in many decisions concerning people with dementia. I’m not referring to the cost of care but how family, friends, and con artists will take advantage of people with dementia.

I include these people with those who continue collecting Soc Sec benefits for deceased relatives.

@PJ_Evans @mekkaokereke @juneb I owned a Legacy for 20 years and have been driving an Impreza for 6. I’m amazed by how much I can fit in the Impreza. And when I learned the proper way of folding down the right front and rear seats to make a nice platform for unassembled shelving, wahoo.

@michael_w_busch @mekkaokereke I visited my wife’s family in rural Virginia. I’ve never seen so many Trump signs in my life. Fortunately they all despise Trump. My 95 yr old father in law, his 98 year old sister and one of my sister in laws.

@stonekettle North Carolina could have accepted restrictions on building on slopes in the mountains and appropriate building standards. But the legislature bends over backwards for the real estate industry.

@WarnerCrocker I just finished listening to 2 podcasts about Curtis Yarvin, who is influential to the new right. He believes in monarchy and having corporate owned nations and if you don't like a how a nation is run you just leave.

So yes, Sen. Vance wants to terminate the Constitution.

@WarnerCrocker One legal problem for homeowners is a Supreme Court ruling from around 100 years ago. It involved someone selling the mining rights to their properly to a coal mining company and then the company destroying their house to access the coal. The SCOTUS ruled that the mining company had the right to destroy the house to get to the coal. I last read about this in the 80s but I think this makes legal recourse harder for the homeowners.

@WarnerCrocker Plus if it is the OS then what prevents someone from remotely turning it on. I am sure there are protections against that but I will always put my money on the hacker. Best protection is for it to not exist.

@StillIRise1963 Reminds me of Black Like Me by John Howard Griffin from 1961. Griffin describes how he took skin darkening medication and that many friends did not recognize him.

Ray Sprigle did this a decade earlier.

While Wikipedia said he received very few hoslite letters, the hostility from White people made him relocate from Texas to Mexico. He was assulted by white men in 1964.

I don't think we need a remake in 2024. It is better to support Black voices.

    @StillIRise1963
It shows a continuing weakness of the main stream publishing world, that is it easier for white person to be published than a black person.

Reminds me of able bodied people getting limited insights by wearing devices to give themselves disabilities which they take off by the end of the day. I know disabled people who support this while knowing the limitations.
