So @noahf is fed up with Fedi because he doesn't see ACTIONS online *here*. Let me tell you/him, there are plenty of irons in this bonfire of the US. Maybe not "seen" online in posts but right now there are all kinds of people taking action and gathering in groups to make effective protests and those who are going after anything from "throwing sand in the gears" to lawsuits and more. Here is what an Arizona site I find vital is sharing today. BTW, even finding the best ways to communicate and continue to communicate is important. #Phoenix#Arizona#Resist https://secularaz.salsalabs.org/feb-17-25?wvpId=11ddd6f5-de9f-49e0-9d21-04099a69699b
@NilaJones@TheBird Ah, I read it as items specifically addressed in ADA and in the JAN federal information for employers and job-seekers. They have been in resources of accessibility and accommodations that are suggested. None of these are “legally-required “ but are recommendations, which has been reflected in ADA policy. It’s been declining in impact for years now, and getting worse (as in less help like finding support, even guidance). The most current pages have not been deleted yet. Has been many-decade partnership W Virgina University, US DOL, and some private entities. https://askjan.org/
The nice presentation in the post shows clearly that accessibility goes far beyond parking, ramps and requests for ASL interpreters. Many facilities and public services simply do not take into account the real needs of people besides doing a few visible things.
In recognition of #SuperbOWL#SuperOWLSunday today (only recognition of great photography, NOT any interest of some US folderol, I present the only recent owl photos I’ve taken. Both are in a large outdoor cage at the Phoenix zoo. I was about 100’ away so these were lucky shots via Canon Mark IV, 300mm prime lens.
For friends who followed me on the old Mastodon instance, this is shared again here. I just enjoyed seeing all the #Owl photos here today.
For some friends I also share that the expression on the owl face is pretty evocative of my face lately when reading “news”.
1 unusually high numbers of shoppers at a grocery store 7 am when it opened. Shopper carts are full.
Hmmm, 2 Hispanic meat department staff/butchers are not at work today and the meat case has not been opened for the day.
Down the street, 7 of the 16 single family homes now appear to be occupied by a large number of men. No families, children or seniors. Each property has an average 5 vehicles parked in driveway and garage, filling front yard and along street. All vehicles are trucks, SUV or sporty cars. 2 were like this last few months. But the 5 more homes? Within the last week or two. Odd. At the least. Odd. And unsettling. #ChChChChanges
Nefandous I meant to post this early in this memorable week of sheer crap. From the home page of a favorite web site for A. Word. A. Day with Anu Garg. He must have spent some time assembling this weekly email I get, because every word, the quotes and the graphic are absolutely spot-on for this last Monday of Shame and Infamy. Anu asks: “Who in your life, at work, or beyond fits one or more of these words?” Of course we know an answer so I will not repeat it here. He Who Must Not Be Named Returns. So I think I should share "Media" right away so folks know it's really moi - how about a rock? This "rock" is one of my more "famous" rock photos. I took it in a glass display case at the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show years ago in 2007 with a point and shoot camera. The "rock" is an amazing geode from the Bisbee mines and owner called it "Velvet Beauty". Back then it was valued at $25,000. I have thousands of photos on my flickr account that is now about 20 years old. Yikes! #Cobalt#Rock#Azurite#Geode
To verify my account to a theropologist I suggested he "Go Ask Alice" and woot, I'm here! Maybe this is a good time to mention my favorite author is Terry Pratchett. And that I like rocks. I mean I really really like rocks. Transitioning from my old instance at awscommunity.social. I may swear more than usual after January 20. Sorry about that. Not. Oh yes, I post many photos but the biggest ones go on my Flickr account now 20 years old. Can’t believe I’ve lived in Arizona 20 years now.
