The joke I was going to make was that nobody knew what a "Linux" was back then and you could convince a girl to go with you before she realizes that you've taken her to a hole full of sweaty nerds and you realize that girls can't tell the difference between computers and MtG. (The actual reason is that sizes trended upwards when "Linux Symposium" is a thing that your company might buy you a ticket to, so it's going to be older/fatter people attending it. Linux is now a thing you make money from, not a new thing that kids are excited about. The implication that Linux makes you into a fat nerd is funny, though. Ruining a joke by fact-checking it is lulz-assassination.)
