Anne Applebaum hasn't much good reputation to begin with. She is an overt empire mouthpiece. I read half of her book Twilight for Democracy to understand how vile she is in demonizing and disparaging those who support Trump. What disturbs me is people who actually look to The Atlantic or buy her books.

Nice stories like that keep people reading the mag and getting dosed with war propaganda when they turn page. I once read it more often too. Maybe it wasn't always so bad, or maybe I wasn't attune to its methods when I was younger.

Different versions of a product are available to military/intelligence verses what is available to general public. This would explain why they look similar but different to the advertised model.

Some people are finally learning that all centralized platforms are eventually coerced or corrupted. When they banned Tiktok, I posted that Telegram was next. NOSTR and the Fediverse are where people should invest their time.

I am not defending this stupidity, but I remember this story. Once while waiting tables a guy at a table explained to me how the brain has the ability to tune out annoying noises which is how people live next to railroad tracks. The guy told me this while his wife was talking to him.😅

You should explain what you mean by trust. I trust MSM to spin events, hide what is important, weave narratives to manipulate us, and generally indoctrinate us.

I went to lunch in Berkeley and talked to these cops guarding the Apple store. They have six police officers there from open to close. The store was hit 7 times in 6 weeks previously.

None of the other stores on the street had security. Our tax money is at work protecting the biggest corporation.

The phone number is foundational to Signal. It took them years to enable the usernames which are still tied to your phone number. I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for them to change out the foundations. Try simplex.chat that was designed to not even have identities. Spinning up decentralized servers is also easy. Desktop integration does not work that well yet, but they can improve the features on this solid foundation.

@Blort VC's throw around a lot of money hoping but not requiring a payback. Simplex is a platform on which monetized apps could be created. We can only hope that the chat app stays clean. I am flexible to switch up comms anytime I need to, but most people are stubbornly stuck with whatever they have adopted. This is why I regret convincing people to use Signal years ago.
