I have boomer relatives still pressuring people to go to college in my family. They do mean well, they actually teach people stuff. In their minds this is prestige and how you get a good job.

I tell the kids "You going to be a doctor or a lawyer or an engineer or something like that? No? Don't go to college. Go to votech and become a mechanic or electrician before you do that."

As an aside I know a 90s millennial living with his silent generation grandparents, basically taking care of them. Accused of being a leech by his parents.

Helped him get a job in the 2010s. Was in his car with him and noticed he had the car in 2nd gear on the interstate. "Dude, put it in drive."

"It is an automatic."

"That doesn't matter, you're going to fuck up your transmission, the lower gears are for mud or snow and you should only drive slow."

He didn't know. His driving instructor took him through residential areas so it wasn't a noteable issue. His boomer father never taught him to drive he had to teach himself.

I taught him how to change a tire too later that week, he probably could have looked it up online but I did it with him just so he'd have the experience. I am like ten years older than this guy.

He has fewer handiman skills than my female cousins. He learned to cook and balance a checkbook as an adult from his grandmother. Grandfather to senile by that point so couldn't help. Complete failure of his parents.
