@SuperSnekFriend @Eleutheria2 @wan Eating anything sourced from india is insane. Even the turmeric they export is filled with lead. -

@LittleTom @SuperSnekFriend @Eleutheria2 @wan Most of the spices are since they use leaded gasoline powered heaters to dry them off out. Seriously. -

@wan @SuperSnekFriend Can't wait to never eat shrimp again. Unless the package says where they were caught. But even then, probably not. -

You may as well look for shrimp from farms here in America. Even shrimp farms in Latin America would be better than India. -

No, in general. Western companies add 'fillers' and Chinese use lead tools too. BowserNoodle ☦️ likes this. -

@Deplorable_Degenerate @cjd @BowsacNoodle @Eleutheria2 @LittleTom @SuperSnekFriend @wan Just don't buy Indian is the most important thing here. Ground or not, you're getting a helping of poo in it if it comes from India. -

Not gasoline, tetraethyllead has been illegal in India since 2000. It's actually finally illegal everywhere in the world, Algeria finally got rid of it in 2021. Now it's just avgas :/
The lead in Indian spices is probably coming from solder joints in various machines that are processing it... -

@cjd @Eleutheria2 @LittleTom @SuperSnekFriend @wan Peppers and Cocoa (chocolate) had/have a similar issue of lead regardless of origin. I don't know if it's gasoline or the equipment or some other chemicals, but I just assume cheap and simple leaded gas as a default explanation. -

Oh 100%, if there are no strict regulations then pretty much anyone operating on a budget will do that.
BUT, when a high class Brahmin buys a brand new BMW and then 3 weeks later it's clogged and he needs someone to smash out the cat, he's gonna be pissed. So there's no way they're just selling leaded fuel to everyone.BowserNoodle ☦️ likes this. -

@cjd @SuperSnekFriend @BowsacNoodle @Eleutheria2 @LittleTom @wan You've seen Indian mechanics. They would definitely just take the catalyst element out after it clogs up

I don't know this for a fact, but I don't think TEL is available in India because:
1. Even if nobody follows the law at the small scale, the major oil refineries can't just sweep something like that under the rug, so they have to make TEL free formulations with the correct anti-knock properties, and when they have the correct anti-knock properties then there's no point in adding TEL.
2. Any modern car with a catalytic converter is going to shit itself if you put leaded fuel in it, so if you're selling leaded fuel you have to also sell unleaded fuel because no matter where you are in the world, you're going to find cars which happen to have catalytic converters and stuff.
So it just makes no sense to make leaded fuel anywhere...BowserNoodle ☦️ likes this. -
