    Every kid is different, too. Another son of yours probably didn't need that level of "engagement," lol. One of my sons really only needs/ever needed stern words at times... my 2nd son is fairly autistic, but he knows exactly what he's doing & he needs hard punishments. Only took a bit & now it's 95% just threats. Third is a weird mix. At times he's very sensitive & I'm careful then. Other times he thinks he can smack me just for dumb frustration...

    I smack harder, buddy. Lol (it's only butts & occasional upper arms, btw).

    I might be wrong, but IMO abuse comes from a selfish, reckless place. Discipline is thought out (& controlled, despite what the zero-corporal-punishment, mostly-childless crew here thinks).

    Abuse is also often genuinely injurious for the sake of being injurious, & leaves kids more tainted than with any respect for you. My mom spanked me quite a bit, Dad some, & no ill feelings.

    Comparable to Tyler thing? I was more mentioning differences in temperaments of kids can influence how you deal with them, not saying our sons are necessarily the same.

    Some boys might be sensitive enough to realize gravity of what they did... some not.
