Bridging exists. Matrix had a nice seamless interaction with IRC for example (now matrix.org do not host it, but can still be selfhosted).

Especially when both XMPP and Matrix are on the way to implement MLS encryption in the future.

If Mastodon is hard to understand I don't get how people learned to use web browsers.

All those URLs, bars, nonconsistant design of web pages, thinking about SSL and weird padlocks, so many settings. Only technical people can use it.

To clarify for others: Mastodon server and webclient code is free and open source software. Also, because of AGPL every instance is legally required to provide source code once requested.

Truth Social was a famous Mastodon modification and was forced to release their source code.

The reason LibreJS is blocking it is just because Mastodon does not provide this licence information to the user's browser, only on their website and code repository. So LibreJS does not know if it's free or not.
You can safely add Mastodon to the whitelist.

This bothers me too.
There should be some way for making self-healing protocol, where server that is on two networks will pass messages from one network to another working like a bridge. But it will be very hard to make, I think (never created any protocol so do not know how hard it will be).

SearX/SearXNG offers results in RSS feed, json or csv formats.

Find an instance which allows for these formats (links should be displayed on the right of the results) or host your own. Go to settings -> privacy and change HTTP Method to GET. While still in settings go to engines and in video category select only YouTube.
Now search for something, select videos and you should get link for RSS on the right.

Pamiętam jak w swoich początkach tego używałem pisząc "how to install ... on Ubuntu", a potem musiałem się frustrować bo jakieś PPA trzeba dodawać, coś zmieniać, a potem jak to wszystko cofać.
