Look at that: https://fosdem.org/2025/schedule/track/mobile/#FOSDEM#LinuxMobile Thanks @devrtz and others for all the hard work! Also note: "The schedule is now available (modulo talks for which the speakers haven't yet clicked on the confirmation link)" - so there's even more good stuff coming!
@trashheap I've been through most of this, too (less N900, less SailfishOS, more Ubuntu Touch, and a lot of de-googled Android before "degoogled" was a term - I just opted to not install "gapps").
Since 2020, I have invested quite some money and time into supporting and helping out people that do their best to make it work, as it's the only way to make it happen.
@trashheap Complaining will not. Just buying hardware will not. Finding the place where one can help out, being kind when writing issues, doing what's possible to keep contributors from burnout and so on is the only way we'll ever get there, and with postmarketOS and Mobian there's no detached management that pulls the plug just as it's getting there.
Long story short, the old wisdom turns out to be true still: If you want things to be painless, don't buy random hardware and stick to supported things.
Also: Hey, at least it IS booting!
I will see how much time I can responsibly spend on this cursed machine. (2/2)
As a long time ARMv7/aarch64 Linux user, I totally forgot that things in #Linux x86_64 land can be quite cursed, too.
My new AliExpress-sourced P8 Intel N100-powered 8" mini-laptop re-educated me in how difficult some hardware can be.
I only managed to boot Ubuntu and Fedora installers successfully and went with Silverblue (instead of NixOS). I now have an Intel device that boots up with screen sideways and uses Software Rendering 🫣️ (1/2)
Manjaro is basically the only distro out there doing daily dev builds of Plasma Mobile, so (at @espidev's) suggestion I'm setting up some infra to do builds of PM for Alpine/postmarketOS.
One thing I am still looking for: RSS feeds for youtube search terms.
So far, I only found one paid service that offers this (~ USD 100/year) - but before I subscribe to that, I wanted to #ask if someone has a FOSS/cheaper solution. Thanks!
Hi! This is the main Fediverse account of a blog about LINux on MOBile devices – linmob.net. It's has been restarted in 2020 because of the PinePhone.Used to be https://identi.ca/linmob. Also on bluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/linmob.net.
