@CloudyMrs I think that’s what one of the parents of the Bay City Rollers used to do

@thomasfuchs @clive less safe? Yes, cars were. And cars nowadays are subject to very tight safety regulations.

But anything over 1 1/2 tons is exempt from all these regulations, so in fact they are less safe nowadays. They do not need to be crash tested, they have no crumple zones, and they are more prone to rolling over in a smash.
They not only kill cyclists and pedestrians with greater frequency because they can fall underneath the vehicle, but they also kill their users when they roll over.

@CloudyMrs @Funwithphotos probably to coincide with the publishing of the Covid enquiry. Or the almost forgotten Russia report.

@CloudyMrs and having made the appropriate selection for a family member, wait a week to be told your order has now been refunded because they’re out of stock.
so you have to start all over again 😑

@freemo perhaps if you tried to get away from the binary divisions of Republicans and Democrats, your politics would become much more mature and stable.

Scandinavia is quite clearly a capitalist economy, but quite clearly operates a more socialist welfare program. They are neither socialist not capitalist. Time for some nuance

“The first thing I would say is that we’ve now lived in the deregulated system for 40 years. What we ended up with was a system that failed to achieve the things that the deregulators said it would. We now have a system that is less competitive than it was even during regulation. The top four airlines collectively have a larger market share now than the top four airlines did in 1977. This system of markets and competition has led to massive consolidation and concentration”https://hls.harvard.edu/today/airline-deregulation-may-be-why-flying-is-such-a-miserable-part-of-holiday-travel/

@markmason @MarkHoltom The best service is a universal service. In the same way, as Finland does not allow private education, so has the best education in the world, Canada does not allow private healthcare.

When everybody has to use it, politicians vote to spend money on it, because they can’t escape. That is the future.

@Dogzilla @selzero @partnumber2 @freekbomhof unfortunately, under first past the post it doesn’t work like that. You need proportional representation for democracy to have even a chance of surviving

Don’t forget, the government is subsidising fossil fuels, not renewables. That’s why we’re paying more for electricity than gas or oil.

“On October 24 1975, the woman of Iceland went on strike for equal rights.

90% of women walked off their jobs and out of their homes, shutting down the country.
    The men could barely cope.

The next year parliament passed a law guaranteeing equal pay. Five years later, Iceland elected the worlds, first #woman president.

Now, #Iceland has the highest gender equality in the world .
