I know it looks boring, but it is really important if you are a 🇬🇧UK resident

If passed, it would allow the immigration authority to decide when and whether somebody should get residency based purely on subjective measures like integration or character. 🫤

This could be a really straightforward mechanism to mitigate poverty at its root.

@eff @ericabp governments of all shades are delighted to implement this “child protection” legislation because the flipside is they can monitor the Internet activities of every single adult in the country.

@Infoseepage heat pumps are an excellent way of heating a building but they’re designed to be left on 24/7. In cold weather it would take about a week to get a concrete building up to working temperature.

@gemlog @ChrisMayLA6 gas however arrives in the north East near Aberdeen, so there’s no question that people should pay different prices all over the country because that would mean that the south of England would pay the most.
Like we do for electricity.

@gemlog @ChrisMayLA6 it’s a long time since I paid business rates, but from memory it includes water sewerage and all the services that a local authority provides like roads, fire police education parks & recreation.
Liability is usually worked out on the rental value of the property.

@ChrisMayLA6 100%. As far as I can see Reform’s target voter is the disillusioned labour voter who finds that labour has become Tory and refuses to vote labour again. They have a pathological hatred of tories so they vote Reform.

It is indeed a shame because their natural home would probably be the Greens.

@ChrisMayLA6 the prevalence of supermarkets kills local traders because in poor areas their limited spending power is then spent 99% in the supermarket, leaving nothing for this smaller shops.
Apply a more realistic non-domestic rates value to supermarkets and make it easier for the small shops to survive.

@DGI the government DOESN’T have to balance the books.
It prints the money.

It can produce an imaginary loan to a foreign country just as quickly as it can cancel it. And it can cancel domestic loans with exactly the same facility.

@fanta creo que una turbina solitaria vertical no saca tanta energía, pero parece que si los colocas cerca una de otras superan le producción de las tradicionales. En parte porque las tradicionales tienes que dejarles muy separados, pero las verticales metes mucho más en una superficie determinada.

Sin embargo creo sinceramente que el futuro está en placas solares. Todas las turbinas necesitan mantenimiento pero a las placas solares casi no les tienes que tocar.

@fanta esto es clave. En un parque eólico funcionan en equipo “the vertical turbine design is far more efficient than traditional turbines in large scale wind farms, and when set in pairs the vertical turbines increase each other's performance by up to 15%.”

@fanta si fuesen más eficientes los usaría todo el mundo. Su rendimiento es mucho menor que uno horizontal.
Los coches y los gatos matan muchos más aves que las turbinas.
