clacke (clacke@libranet.de)'s status on Tuesday, 24-Sep-2024 17:48:41 JST clacke @punishmenthurts Yes. Privacy was invented in modern times, but for good reason, modern times require modern solutions. We interact with millions of entities in ways anonymously mediated through financial transactions.
The old pro-social ways of safeguarding decency toward each other don't work when we don't personally know everyone. Instead, if I don't know them I'd better make sure they don't "know" me, have information on me, and abuse the information assymetry.

clacke (clacke@libranet.de)'s status on Tuesday, 24-Sep-2024 17:35:01 JST clacke Me: Do you have that email, could you paste it in the chat?
Colleague: No, I'm eating.I much prefer these meetings with the colleagues who are open and relaxed and we're just hanging out. Those colleagues will always take ownership of things, fix things as they encounter them, and they're concerned that things are working properly and that those that depend on us are receiving service. We work together to make sure this company runs with less friction every day.
The other type of colleague are the ones that say "that's not our team's responsibility", "please provide evidence that we have spoken about this before", or even worse, "yes, Claes" and then when you check two weeks later nothing has moved and nobody is willing to say why.

They (we) can do this civilly and politely, while additionally expressing concern that your grievances are expressed in bad form, 'why so angry, smile more':
' "Politeness" and "civility" over what people are actually saying.'
The two paragraphs reinforce and expand on each other.

clacke (clacke@libranet.de)'s status on Tuesday, 24-Sep-2024 11:36:39 JST clacke @futzle I have a friend who used to have this aura where hardware would just break down near him. Harddrives would fail if he plugged in the power to the desktop. Boot would fail if he pressed the power button.
I don't know if the aura wore off or if computers just became more reliable by the later 90s compared to the earlier 90s, but he doesn't have this anymore.
I'm the opposite. People will tell me something is not working, I repeat the exact steps they tell me, and it works. I have the wizard's touch.

mcc (mcc@mastodon.social)'s status on Tuesday, 17-Sep-2024 08:49:30 JST mcc What's funny about Oracle is like, most tech companies, people probably feel *skeevy* about, but also most tech cos have done 1 thing you Like. Lots of people love their Apple products. You might be annoyed at Google right now but there was probably a time they made you happy in some way. Microsoft? People do like XBoxes. OpenAI has fans!
But NOBODY interacts with Oracle on purpose. Even coders don't *pick* Oracle. There's no brake on you just *resenting* Larry Ellison.

OpenJDK is several years older than Oracle's acquisition of Sun, and Android launched before the acquisition too. -

I mail with my immediate family, but the cousins don't really mail, we're in a Messenger group and we DM each other.

clacke (clacke@libranet.de)'s status on Tuesday, 24-Sep-2024 10:01:59 JST clacke I used to live in a "bad" area in Västerås. When I told people where I lived, people who had never been there would say "Oh." with a worried look, and they would wonder if my car would be set on fire. People who had actually lived there would say "Oh!" and talk about the pizzeria and the nice forest walk. 😃 -

The Problem of Writing Poems in the Shape of Deciduous Tree
[the poem is in the shape of a leafy tree, and letters here and there have fallen down to form the last line "turn to mush ...", the words all mushed together, except the final "d", which is still sailing down through the air]
a common problem when writing poems in the shape of deciduous trees is that once there arrives the first stirrings of the new autumn breeze, the poems will begin to shake themselves gently until their letters loosen like leaves, and they start to float down, then turn to mush upon the ground
