To celebrate the first day of autumn, here’s a poem called ‘The Problem of Writing Poems in the Shape of Deciduous Trees’.

@brianbilston Love the poem! Though the alt text should probably be with the letters added back in for the sake of screen readers.

Do love the detail about how the last line is formed from all the fallen letters from the tree. Added to my sighted experience of the poem.

@cloudhopper I feel very sorry for her. She deserves better than that.

@brianbilston Who’s this all, like, casually rubbing shoulders with Elizabeth Bishop?

@brianbilston three years ago I lost my closest friend of 20 years. Everyday when I come across cool things that he'd find interesting my first instinct is to send it his way like we used to.
He would have loved your brilliant and creative poem. Today is his birthday and I shared this with all his people in his memory. You have truly brightened our day in fondly celebrating our beloved friend. Thank you!

      Alt alt text:

The Problem of Writing Poems in the Shape of Deciduous Tree

[the poem is in the shape of a leafy tree, and letters here and there have fallen down to form the last line "turn to mush ...", the words all mushed together, except the final "d", which is still sailing down through the air]

a common problem when writing poems in the shape of deciduous trees is that once there arrives the first stirrings of the new autumn breeze, the poems will begin to shake themselves gently until their letters loosen like leaves, and they start to float down, then turn to mush upon the ground

@brianbilston I just got so much joy from this and the subtle missing ‘d’ at the end to be joined by the falling d perhaps. Wonderful work! Please keep doing what you do. 🍂 🌳
