I find privacy to be a bizarre issue, another one where people think things were always shit and they weren’t: you never had privacy in your traditional paleolithic or neolithic human group, and you didn’t need it, the privacy isn’t the point, the bloody ill will is the point

The old pro-social ways of safeguarding decency toward each other don't work when we don't personally know everyone. Instead, if I don't know them I'd better make sure they don't "know" me, have information on me, and abuse the information assymetry.
