I’d say the pronounciation doesn’t change. But this is a case where the typical German composed words are somewhat difficult to pronounce since you must keep the syllables apart:

Fischschwarm: fish’shvarm
Fischschwärme: fish’shvermə

(And if you put fish in Arabian fastfood, you get fishshawarma…)

German is usually more specific than English, and this is no exception:
* Fisch = singular
* Fische = plural
* Fischart = one species of fish
* Fischarten = more than one species of fishes
* Fischschwarm = school of fish
* Fischschwärme = schools of fishes
(3 different plurals!)

(Ich war Zivi im Naturschutzzentrum, wir haben ein Jugend-Umweltseminar mit der Partnerstadt in Wales organisiert. Mein Chef telefonierte mit dem Bürgermeister in Wales, und ich dachte „dein Englisch ist fürchterlich!“. Dann hatte ich selber mal mit dem zu tun, und der redete genauso...)
