@charlie_root @dcc @Goalkeeper @Volkish_Observer @tyler I used to get upset a lot with changes to some components and procedures, until I started to read the rationale behind some of these changes.
Generally most of these wheel reinvention efforts are for good reasons (except Gnome, they are the spawn of satan)
What is a problem is that sometimes the implementation (*waylan... cough cough) is garbage or wasn't thought properly when it comes to real world implementation and usage.
Some times the implementation is close to being flawless (IE: pipewire replacing pulseaudio) or they have a weird start and turn out great NetworkManager.

@charlie_root @Goalkeeper @Volkish_Observer @tyler Using Linux exclusively since 2011, it works, it is stable and you can produce any stuff with it if you are willing to learn how to.
You need to get into the mindset that you'll have to learn to fix Linux issues, and stop thinking Linux is a 1:1 replacement for Windows. It is its own thing. You're accustomed to fix Windows problems so you do not consider them problems anymore. Same goes for everything.
Adjust your expectations, learn what components give you the functionality you want (IE: need smb support on my file browser I need to install GVFS, etc.) And more importantly, learn the fact that not all hardware is Linux compatible, if a $5 WIFI adaptor is not supported by the standard kernel drivers, put it in the bin and buy one that does. Same goes for everything else. You might think that is bad or retarded and that it costs money, but that is how the world works, you do not complain when you find software in a Mac that only works with Apple hardware and vice-versa don't you?
Learn to backup your system when it works (Trivial on Linux) and it is dead easy to recover from any situation, Linux can always be repaired. I haven't reinstalled a single machine at least since 2019, I just keep restoring the latest backup when I change hardware.
And more importantly you need to accept its limitations, when you replace Windows you aren't replacing Windows alone, you're replacing an entire ecosystem.

@Suiseiseki >> You're confusing commercial and proprietary.
If I can:
1) Download the source.
2) Compile my own version.
3) Study it and make changes to it as I see fit.
4) Distribute such changes to 3rd parties at my discretion.
5) Freely share or sell the data I produce with it.
In my book it fully qualifies as free software.
Now, kdenlive and ffmpeg are built upon several parts that have other licenses than GPL. I can accept that compromise for complex pieces of end user software that have dependencies on other projects.
As long as these licenses do not restrict any of the above 4 points I'm happy, I will never accept any limitations to the 4 points above.
If we're talking about basic pieces of infrastructure such as the kernel or low level libraries I would prefer them being 100% GPL.

@Suiseiseki @gentoobro I use ffmpeg and Kdenlive, it is sometimes more involved and not as sophisticated as commercial video editing software, and sometimes requires more effort, but does the job, at least for me.
It is true that end-user productivity software in Linux is not as advanced (in some areas) as the one commercial corporations push, but the software selection on Linux/foss keeps getting better and better all the time.
Blender, FreeCAD, Inkscape, GIMP, Libreoffice, and many others cover nicely most of what an home user could require in terms of producing content.
Still won't be enough for 100% of the users out there, maybe as low as 30% (probably bit higher), as time goes by with each major release of each respective application the percentage of users that can be served with it grows and grows. For example GIMP and FreeCAD are about to jump massively in functionality with major releases coming soon.

@charliebrownau @LukeAlmighty Yeah, I have been using a trackball for a while now, I can't use a mouse now more than a day or two without getting some serious carpal discomfort. 🙄

@charliebrownau @LukeAlmighty I thankfully do not suffer from gout, my issues with the right hand come from decades of intense mouse usage due to CAD work requiring me to use the mouse intensively 8h+ per day.
Got used to the trackball now, I have almost the same precision as I do with a mouse after 1 year using it. Trackball really was a game changer for the pain.

@charliebrownau @LukeAlmighty I have arthritis on my right hand from years of mouse usage... I think the problem is always doing the same motions.

@sickburnbro Israel is allowed to do as they please and you better be happy with it. It is the sacred duty of the USA to be the guarantor of their impunity in doing whatever the fuck they want to whomever they decide to.
They will have infinity planes, tanks, guns, bombs, nukes, anything they would ever need is the USA's sacred duty to procure and pay for.
Don't ask me why beyond the moronic Evangelical motivation I have no clue why this is, I'm just stating reality, and you and I will pay for it.
Sadly save and act of God there is no stopping the Jews in genociding their Arab neighbors.

@brigrammer @Humpleupagus @tk @J @anemone @graf @sun Don't be intrigued, just pick any mini computer with a Gen 2 onwards CPU with integrated graphics and min 4GiB RAM + 128GiB HD for <$100 at Ebay. Deploy Linux Mint XFCE on it and start getting familiar with it.
Just don't treat it like windows, Linux is its own thing, with regards to the community it is as good and as bad as mankind/the internet is good or bad.

@Aeder @anemone @mischievoustomato @sun On a company that I join once I was given a powermac (like picture) with dual xeons, because the Linux people use macs, or so I was told, I had never used MacOS X, I couldn't bear it for less than a week, I installed Linux on it, plugged a regular PC keyboard on it and boy was I a happy camper. The best Macs are those running Linux. 👍

@Will2Power @sickburnbro If America is an idea all they have to do is replicate it in Africa and India, shrimple as. 🤦
it is very telling how moronic that thought is but because (((intellectuals))) kept repeating it for 70 years few dared question it. Same with other (((intelectual pearls))) such as (((Judeo-Christian)))
