@mekkaokereke @louis @wendinoakland I know you have this sore-spot/blindspot and I'm not going to push.
I seems your suggesting that America's progress on racial animus from the 1960s to the 2020s is thanks to social media.
I disagree.

I disagree.
@mekkaokereke @wendinoakland You can say you're being deliberately reductive, but "they were hopeless racists all along" is your argument.
It's possible to be reductivist and also correct, and maybe you are.
But if so, isn't the implication of your argument that it's impossible to have a anti-racist society because the whites will keep screwing it up?
America is systemically racist. Those who want to enshrine the systems of racism haven't been sitting around idle.
@mekkaokereke @wendinoakland I think you're being too reductive. These kids don't start out fascist.
I'm not trying to give them excuses. They are making conscious choices based on the media that's presented to them.
If we get out of this, we're going to bed to seriously grapple with the challenge to society of giving anyone with an internet connection unfettered access to our brains.
@mekkaokereke @wendinoakland The algorithm shows different kids different stuff.
IMO, the tell in the original story is the dieting. That's always been a really niche idea, but selling diet pills to healthy people is literally the business of right-wing radio.
@mekkaokereke I'm sure this is an easy fix. Maybe put "don't be racist" in the prompt.
@inthehands "A republic, if you can keep it." From the moment the Constitution was written.
@ironchamber @carnage4life To me, it demonstrates a fundamental misunderstanding of how story-boarding came to exist in the first place.
Storyboarding isn't just about displaying your idea. The process of creating those images works as a drafting process not only for the story, but for the characters, and the world in which they exist.
@carnage4life Prediction: The development of these games is going to lag, and the resulting product will be much worse exactly to the degree of "AI" involvement.
@GossiTheDog No critical infrastructure should run 3rd party services that perform unsupervised automatic remote updates. The OS is irrelevant.
Also, not every server needs to have ends point protection. (For example, the kiosk displaying arrivals and departures.)
@DemocracyMattersALot Republicans are talking about deporting a lot of non-immigrants. People who just happened to get caught in the mix.
Oh, you went jogging without your papers? Good luck getting access to a lawyer when you're one of 20 million people in the ICE detention camp.
Your local volunteer ICE patrolman had the hots for your girlfriend? Disposing of rivals is just one of the perks of being a member of "Trump's Incel Army"
@jacklaridian @lovelylovely Stop. Lying.
@ATLeagle @mekkaokereke The Dems need Manchin because there's not enough progressive votes in Texas and Florida.
There's nothing behind your cliches.
"People who were tired of the same old thing were energized to change things."
Which people? Tired of what? Energize in what way? Change things how?
Why can't people on the left get on ballots? All you need is the requisite number of signatures.
@ATLeagle @mekkaokereke The premise here is that the DNC (ok... not them. The *real* DNC that controls everything in smoky backrooms) is the reason there isn't a progressive anti-coal candidate in WV to replace Manchin?
At the start of this decade, voters replaced a lot of conservative democrats (so called "blue dogs") with rabidly right-wing Republicans. In no small part a response to electing a black President (thanks DNC!).
The result was a dramatic rightward lurch in our politics.
@ATLeagle @mekkaokereke The loss of those blue dogs enabled the rise of Trumpism, including climate denialism, which directly led to (among other things) the overturn of Roe v Wade.
As a practical matter, your sacrificial model of politics is a complete failure.
@mekkaokereke @ATLeagle The wipeout of the blue dogs created space for the freedom caucus loons, which provided the core political support within the party for Trump's primary run.
Refusing to acknowledge the political power of the white christianist vote does not make it disappear.
A large number of people in this country live in depopulated states and don't want the future that you and I do. Whether that's reduced fossil fuels or an end to the carceral state.
@mekkaokereke @ATLeagle fair enough, everything is a matter of perspective.
You could argue that the alt-right is a response to the fecklessness of mainstream Republicans to the perceived progressive shift by the Democrats.
Not saying Dems shouldn't have shifted, not saying blue dogs presented a viable long term stance, just talking about the things that we know happened.
Did electing republicans produce a more progressive outcome?
No. No it did not.
@franktaber Obviously the murder rate is so low because BLM killed everyone in the city in 2019.
@dalias @Nazani @javi the current AI wave was *caused* by a glut of coprocessing chips that were produced by Nvidia and purchased by al cloud hosting providers with the plan to sell blockchain/"bitcoin mining as a service" to corporate customers.
But that bubble popped and they were left with tremendously expensive servers, specifically useful only for parallel computation, that nobody wanted to use.
@WarnerCrocker I'd never have imagined that there'd be a "pro deadly virus" party, but here we are.
Here's a theory. What if one of the side-effects of COVID is an ongoing brain chemical imbalance that causes humans to become desirous of future viral infections.
@mekkaokereke @doctormo That isn't fair. The tools that trans people used to make a safe social media environment for trans people could be used to make a space for black people.
I think it's more complicated. There's a twisted symbiosis that happens on Twitter and FB (and eventually BlueSky).
On those platforms, people share posts of people they hate more than they share posts of people they like. The algorithm puts "controversial" content in peoples' faces.
Try not to judge me by my profile. #BatmanIsAFascist
