I watched ‘ROBOT JOX’ for the #MBMC and it was interesting to see how similar this movie is to ‘PACIFIC RIM’ from 23 years later. It’s not exactly the same story, but there are some important elements that are the same. I read that the director (Stuart Gordon) has even gone on record calling out Del Toro for what was ‘borrowed’ from the cult film. You can judge for yourself, but I totally see it, even down to the ultra tense sparring match.
@moonwalkerwiz It's funny. I just had a conversation with someone who was complaining about episode 7, but they hadn't yet watched episodes 8 and 9. I'm like what are you doing. That's like watching the first act of a film and complaining there's no payoff. 😅
'HIDIOUS!' (1997) "Dr. Lorca, a collector of biological oddities, fights another curator of horrors over a mutant. But their clash is cut short when the mutant comes to life and resurrects an angry, oozing army."

This is a cautionary tale. They took a beloved IP from the past, cashed in on nostalgia and completely forgot what made the original show so good.
Worse than that, they kept making massive changes to the format and cast in reaction to the poor reviews. By season 3, it wasn't anywhere near the original idea and it was dead in the water. 😕
@schamspeare You can hashtag all you want, but I'm probably just going to mute you if you shit on something I love. Nothing personal, but I came to Mastodon to get away from negativity.
@schamspeare It's not my goal to argue. I get that you got bored in ep 7, but I assure you it gets better. I think where I get annoyed is when people hashtag their gripes. I follow the ANDOR hashtag because I love it and life is too short to complain about shit you don't like. Save the hashtags for spreading the LOVE. 🥰
@schamspeare I just realized you haven't see episodes 8 and 9 yet, which is wild. You do realize the three were meant to be watched together, right? It's like watching act I of a film and deciding the pivotal scene is unimportant, without waiting to see why.
Also, I meant pretentious. As in, attempting to impress by affecting greater importance. Both words could work in this scenario. Watch episodes 8 & 9 before judging ep 7.
Some of you might already be hip to reaction videos, but everyone has their favorite reactors. These guys are mine and this reaction to 'ANDOR' episode 8 is exactly why. I saw other reactors not getting it (and even cheer when Syril got shot), but these guys GET IT.
Best reactors on #Youtube, if that's your thing. If you don't watch reactors, that's cool too. I just find stuff like this cathartic. 🥰
Tonight's BAD movie is said to have inspired many (much better) films about the subject of fighting inside giant robots. That's how cinema should work. Stop remaking good films and remake the ones that didn't land with the audience. 😎
@schamspeare Well, the first thing she says is 'Who are you?' to Andor, almost like she realizes his importance without knowing why. Every once in a while we get reminders of the Force, without actually using Jedis and I think characters like this and Chirrut represent a different idea than Jedis.
'm overly-sensitive to directors being pretentious (can't stand most Oscar bait films), but no I didn't feel that here. It's Star Wars and the Force will always be important to the story.
