Politics non-stop? Where's the cats?
No really, it's a joke, I don't want a ton of replies with cats.
I have a deadline. Don't need the distraction with my name on it LOL
"Johnny, what did you do over summer vacation?"
"I caught #COVID
"Johnny, what did you bring for Show&Tell?"
"I brought #COVID
*rumbling mumbling from the class* "That's not fairrrrr. That's what ***I*** brought!"
"It's ok class, you can ALL have it and share it too!!"
*points to the block button*
Man am I thankful that my instance has a 500 character limit. That was a little long answering a question that I didn't ask. Nor did I see the OP ask. So context is lost. You lost me anyway when you said you make fun of people. Ciao!
*deep breath*
I'm pretty sure no matter what I say or how I say it, people will come at me, even though I am not trying to stir anything up nor make excuses for anybody. *dives head first*
This reminds me of botnets. Your server/website gets attacked, HARD, from a bazillion different IPs and there is no way to "whack-a-mole" to get rid of them all. You just can't.
Here, you're instance mods can't, & your instance admin can't. They'll just keep coming... 1/
2/
..."fend for yourself" if looked at a different way is taking power into your own hands.
Personally, there are words that trigger me. People use them all the time. If I were to try to block them all, I would drive myself crazy and my experience here would... yeah I'd leave.
The best tool Masto has is the filter. You don't have to block people, assholes, playing whack-a-mole, you filter out their toots... 2/
... Please don't take this analogy wrong. Sometimes I suck at them until later when clever comes to me.
It feels like the roles are misunderstood here. The instance admin upkeeps and protects the instance server, your structural "home" from earthquake & arson, etc.
The mods protect all the residents of the home from an intruder who is a danger to the residents.
They can't follow everyone around and protect each one from passers by. We do that part ourselves and we're... 3/
@KimCrayton1

... given tools to do so.
I'd be happy to share how I use filters if anyone is interested.
I know it's more techy here than the other places and that's heavily white and male but there are also large communities of very sensitive peoples, who are not white male geeks that thrive here and I'm not sure why they do but others, like black women, don't.

Past tense? Nobody is masking now and there is no societal pressure to mask now. Yet here we are still in the pandemic with people getting Covid over and over again. Masking prevents infection and spread. Vaccines help keep you out of the hospital. More yelling about masking instead of vaccines would make more sense.

In other really annoying things on my plate, elderly family member's landlord sent out a notice that sometime in June (no date) there will be no power...
For a WEEK!
While they do repairs. Just to let you know, you won't have electricity, no lights, no heat, no a/c, oh and empty your fridge. If you stay...
IF YOU STAY??
*Clint Eastwood squint*
Family member: "I'm staying. It'll be like camping. I'll eat sandwiches."
No way to charge cell phone either so... Completely off the grid.
Holy crap. Reminds me of back in the yahoo chatroom days (2003? ish?) someone would inevitably come into the room I was in and mention their child being online, to which I promptly would tell them to go to {foo} chatroom. Some child friendly sounding chatroom. Off they'd go. And then come back in shock at how many DMs they got from predators within the first minute.
I wish every parent could experience firsthand not what kids can access, but who can access them.
5 to 7... we're doomed
OH! OH OH OH...
This one is on my BINGO card!!

If you have no intention of ordering the free #Covid home tests FOR WHATEVER REASON...
Order them anyway and give them to someone who might not be able to buy them.
2 orders (the limit) is worth $64 or more to buy in the store.
#CovidCautious people who are struggling to survive would welcome this gift! 🎁
If you don't know anyone, let me know.
Thanks! 🫶
"because the price of a bowl of cereal with milk and fruit "is less than a dollar."
https://www.businessinsider.com/personal-finance/kellogg-ceo-cereal-dinner-save-money-2024-2
First things first.
9 oz of Special K costs $5.99 (7 servings / 7 cups) so $0.86 for the cereal
1/2 gal milk costs $2.99 (8 servings / 8 cups) so $0.37 for the milk
That's $1.23 already. Oops.
Cheapest fruit is probably a banana at $0.29.
That's $1.52.
If an employee spent 52% over budget I imagine they'd be fired
I'd like to see him survive on 374 calories for dinner
Is anyone tracking the #Serenade #9monthcruise #UltimateWorldCruise ?
At first I thought it would be boring. I read this article. There is a #Covid #outbreak (duh, it's a petri dish, I mean cruise ship), a "class system" (the horror 🙄 again, duh, cruise ship, rich people on top, peasants down below), and racial issues (again, cruise ship? NOT ok, but in no way surprising).
But now it's getting even more interesting... 1/
@WearsHats
The 25th is when the Sun actually starts to "move" after 3 days of... cave, rebirth, blah blah... hey wait. I don't think I've ever heard anyone say his birthday is in spring. (It is, duh) Do you have a link/reference?
