@ingalls You are right that people should be prepared. They have issued evacuation orders extending 3 miles from the wildland edge in Altadena and Pasadena. I posted a map from Watch Duty.

Evacuation orders are now being extended up to 3 miles south of the edge of the mountains along the Eaton Wash.

@ingalls You might want to be a little more specific. It is the people near the wildland-urban interfaces that need to be prepared to evacuate, not every one of the 15 million people in the Los Angeles area.

@ai6yr @FinchHaven @Yumquotient @CassandraVert I was looking at satellite images of the area around Sarasota, Florida and they had extensive damage to solar panels in solar farm fields full of panels after Hurricane Milton hit at category 4. I don’t know how panels on residential roofs fared. We have a special radar image analysis method to make damage proxy maps, and areas of greatest damage were mobile home parks and solar farms.

@sortius @moz I have seen bogus channels on the home page, but I didn’t realize that it was always the 5th tile. Sometimes I see things that are obviously crazy and press “don’t recommend this channel”

@ajroach42 Ironically, the web browser built into the Mastodon app on iOS was not able to connect to the gotosocial.org site, but I was able to connect with iOS Safari. Thanks for the info.

@ajroach42 What is different about gotosocial? I have not heard about it.

@lauren @edzilla Apple Mail and Outlook also have long had options to not download external images linked in emails, unless we ask for them.

@65dBnoise @FediThing If I remember right, I think the new POTUS takes the oath in a small ceremony with the Chief Justice before the big public display. Biden could attend that small ceremony.

@FediThing I know that Trump refused to participate in the peaceful transfer of power four years ago. I think it is important for Biden to participate in the transfer of power this month. @65dBnoise

@65dBnoise @FediThing To use your wedding analogy, Biden could do the official transfer like a marriage at the city hall and skip the big wedding at the church or other public ceremony. Not much time to arrange that.
