The ancients weren't content with that though; there was #ostracism, the expelling of those thought to be influential enough to be considered a threat to democracy. No justification was required, just a set number of votes.

Yes, only they did not use #AI.
The paper itself doesn't even once mention the words "AI" or "Artificial Intelligence". Not once. And that's done purposefully by the researchers, who respect their own work and their colleagues/readers reading their paper. Their model used ModernBERT, not GPT or any other LLM.
The use of vague, over-hyped marketing buzzwords like "AI" blurs the work of the researchers who went into great lengths in their paper to describe how they did it.

I see it as a coordinated effort to give people the false impression that AI, their AI, does everything under the sun these days. Besides creating fear for the monster that "does everything" and which no one can escape (i.e. surveillance), it also helps sell their failing investments in LLMs. They do that by disrespecting and diminishing significant work of others.
That's exactly what #fascists always do: muddy the language, hide the differences, deceive and loot.

By eliminating technical details about the ML methods actually used by the scientists, and replacing them with distorted and vague AI hype, they are trying to turn scientific work into selling points for #technofascism. But what they'll manage to do in the end, is have no one read their pitiful articles anymore.
