@cwebber Another reason to stop travelling to the US. I have always thought the bathroom bans made it unsafe for all women, this just underlines that. :(
And this also affect airlines, not just border. So much empathy for the Americans who did not vote for this.
@ScruffyJunco@cwebber Frankly, I am terrified that our right has been taking notes from your right and are making too many inroads. It seems too may, particularly those lacking education, like being given permission to be their worst selves. It's a fight we are all in, like it or not. Human rights are human rights or they're not. :(
I posted the location information in the hashtags, but these birds are pretty ubiquitous along North American shorelines.
And, those of you who spend time on a beach know the "if I am still, the birds will do their own thing, but they know I am there, so when crossing right in front of me, they will run like crazy, then resume their normal activity." :)
The first time we drove on Vancouver Island, many years ago, I remarked to my fellow, who was driving, that a building had goats on its roof. "Naw, if you saw something, it was plastic." "No, there were goats on the roof." I made him drive back, we stopped in the parking lot of a little market, "you're right," he said.
That's how I felt when we drove by this. It's there, but explain it to someone so you don't sound crazy.
This used to be my favourite apple orchard. It was north of Toronto, a great place to buy apples, pick during the season, and buy freshly made tarts and pies. Sadly, the owner died and, well, developers had wanted it for some time. The family wasn't so enamoured with the work it took to maintain the business. No more orchard.
It always amazes be that anyone from a place such as this city is not concerned about climate change and rising water levels. Have they never seen the riverfront?
The thing about a costume like this is that not only is it cartoonish and fun, but there’s also very clearly no place for hidden weapons, and no way for the wearer to move nimbly and pose a physical threat.
Watching cops and ICE stand off against someone like this only serves to highlight the absolute disgraceful absurdity of what’s going on in Portland."
@chunshek@ai6yr "Poor acorn and nut harvests drive hungry bears into towns searching for food. Changing hibernation patterns... Abandoned farmland: As Japan’s rural population ages and shrinks, overgrown fields create “edge zones” where bears and humans meet. Fewer hunters: With hunting licenses declining and firearm rules tightening... Loss of fear: Bears used to being near humans or fed at tourist spots become bolder and more dangerous."
When reading through these discoveries, it's a reminder that science updates and changes and that the human mind is incredible.
"Shimon Sakaguchi was swimming against the tide in 1995, when he made the first key discovery....Sakaguchi showed that the immune system is more complex and discovered a previously unknown class of immune cells, which protect the body from autoimmune diseases."
