How about instead of emotional appeals, let's do some real old fashioned marketing of Mastodon.

List features in the left margin.

List products across the top.

Put checkboxes where the product has the feature.

We used to do this kind of stuff really well.

that was the big advantage twitter had over RSS feeds. it was possible to centralize subscriptions, but it required cooperation among the different vendors. and i think people in this world will resist centralization.

Does anyone have a Wordpress instance that's hooked up to ActivityPub? I'd like to see how it works?

Earlier today I used Google to try to find a doc I wrote a few years ago. I am the author. I have the original. Well a bunch of people copied my file and posted it on their sites, with their template and their ads (I don't have ads), and for whatever reason Google ranks their docs higher. Mine isn't even on the first page. So tell me, how is that Google isn't implementing a "man in the middle" attack? Why aren't they taking the heat for delivering incorrect results?

I can now settle the age-old debate about what is and isn't a podcast. If at the end of your podcast, and in your promos, you say "Available where ever you get your podcasts.." then it's a podcast! If you don't say it, then it ain't a fecking podcast!

To illustrate, here's the shortest podcast ever.

BTW, mastodon has thoroughly eclipsed Twitter as the meeting place for developers and clear-thinking users. I don't imagine you'll see too many more Twitter links from me.

I work for the betterment of the network we all share. I'm not trying to get rich or famous, just fix the stuff that's broken. I hope you are doing that too. Keep on truckin.

A question for free speech theorists.

1. Assume Chrome is the dominant browser.

2. Suppose Google starts labeling websites as having dangerous content and restricts access.

Is there a free speech issue, or is Google entitled to control how people use the web?

Of course journalists are being recruited by text-based social networks. They're influencers and that's a big business.

What's amazing is the news orgs don't seem to see this. If they did, they'd be setting up their own networks of influencers.

@frederick — as long as podcasts say “available where ever you get your podcasts” it’s open, no matter how the big companies try to hijack the concept. Your friends money was gotten by selling out our freedom btw, so I wouldn’t want his money, it’s dirty.
