@fediversereport more interesting to me is a long tail of small businesses running it for their own staff. EG the Internet Archive runs a Masto Server. (Vivaldi and Flipboard are the big ones for their users — which is great but a different category)

I’m helping to organize #IPFSThing

It was an incredible experience last year across protocols, projects and of course — people!

We’ll have a good chunk of the @fission attending and presenting, there will be #UCAN, #WNFS, and #IPVM working group sessions.

We’re doing a #Dweb event in #Vancouver!

Turns out @internetarchive has a #Canada version now, and a physical space called The Permanent in downtown Vancouver.

Once the easy money of early search advertising went out, it became commoditized SEO bait.

Mobile form factors being the majority of people’s computing device contributes to this. It’s “easier” to post quick and short.

Blaine has been thinking about and working on various aspects of the #fediverse for a long time.

One server is pan-Canadian http://cosocial.ca with more specific geographic ones available as we launch them (kitsilano.example, winnipeg.example, newfoundland.example).

We want local communities, but membership is in the whole org

So yeah, assuming federated communications helps us solve Wicked Problems faster, it’s important.

@rtanglao I’m using @support for the two larger instances I run right now.

I feel like Mastodon isn’t great for scaling down to one user.

It’s on my list to see if perhaps Fly.io or Railway can run MissKey (NodeJS) or Pleroma (Elixir)

@rtanglao @blaine design-for-self-hosting is definitely a thing that needs work.

What does designing software for running on Fly.io or Railway hosting look like? (these are bleeding edge even for technical devs)
