For folks who want to contribute to #OpenSource but aren't sure where to start — here's a great site for discovering projects that are actively seeking contributions and reviewing PRs!
I’m proud to have once again played a small role in pushing #Mastodon and the #Fediverse forward. Today’s announcement is an important step and bringing greater community ownership and governance to @Mastodon
@risottobias@tchambers@pluralistic@Mastodon I don’t mind having multiple accounts on the federal verse. I have my Mastodon account, my WriteFreely instance, and a pixelfed account. I use them for very different things.
It would be super cool to see Mastodon doing more regarding app discoverability on mobile. I’m imagining a small logo on avatars to indicate which app a user is posting from.
Grassroots efforts like the #Fediverse and #ActivityPub need convening organizations led by trusted individuals from the community to thrive. Very few people match that description as well as @evanprodromou, @mallory, and @tomcoates.
I'm excited to support their work in building and growing this special #SocialWeb.
I'm really proud and excited to share my stealth mission from the past nine months...
Today — #Fastly commits $40M in free services to the @linuxfoundation's entire ecosystem of projects and maintainers.
The unique speed and performance of #Fastly's network are thanks in large part to the customization made possible by the #Linux#kernel, so we're proud to give back not only to the Linux community but also to the Foundation's extended ecosystem of #OSS projects.
Next week, @devs is putting on a keynote event featuring a fantastic lineup of announcements and community celebrations. Please join us for the live stream — we promise you have *never* seen a tech keynote like this one, and we have some exciting news we think our friends here on the #Fediverse are really going to like 😁
It’s always thrilling to share physical space with internet friends - today I was lucky to do so with a bunch of folks pushing the #fediverse forward at @hci#decentralizedsocialmedia workshop. Thanks @andresmh et al for organizing! I feel more invigorated and excited about our future work than ever. I’ll share a more in depth debrief soon, but for now…
As a first post, I wrote about the work I've been doing at Fastly over the past few years, and I'm sure I'll write about that again, but future posts will span the wide breadth of my interests: #tech, #art, #people#community, #politics, #activism, #science, #power.
There is so much power in #OpenSource – not only in what gets built but in the way it gets built. In the communities that build it. There is power in working in public.
What that in mind, I started a #blog where I will show my work moving forward — the accomplishments, sure, but also the messy and failed stuff. Cuz that's where learning happens.
Codes of Conduct are a crucial tool to ensure we build safe, healthy, and inclusive communities in open source — here's an excellent opportunity to contribute to the body of knowledge surrounding them. The study findings will be used to "gain insights into current CoC usage, identify challenges, and suggest optimal practices."
This is probably the most exciting time to be an internet person, possibly since the 'net first blinked on.
How we experience the web is undergoing seismic shifts —#AI, #XR, and the #SocialWeb will make for increasingly personal and engaging experiences, softening the borders between our digital and physical worlds.
@blaine@kissane I'm curious why "part of the world' and "a safe place" are mutually exclusive? To be sure, there are plenty of unsafe places in the world, but there are people and institutions that have built safe spaces within it too. To me, the benefit of the fediverse is that you can be part of the world, and connect with anyone *and* also build a safe corner of the internet for yourself.
