@cstross It absolutely blows my mind that there's a market for bootleg helicopters.

Michael Kohne (mhkohne@mastodon.social)'s status on Tuesday, 05-Nov-2024 06:13:29 JST Michael Kohne @0xabad1dea Corps are often stupid. I've seen stories of authors hired to do movie novelizations who can't get the end of the script so that they can finish the book. Absolutely bonkers.

Michael Kohne (mhkohne@mastodon.social)'s status on Monday, 09-Sep-2024 19:12:55 JST Michael Kohne @mekkaokereke OK, I had a thought earlier today in relation to something else: Something is slowly pushing folks to use cash less and some kind of electronic transaction more (evidence: My son was in London for two weeks in the spring and was UNABLE to spend the cash he took - businesses just don't want to fool with it). Is there some part of CAF that is being used to try to help this along? Doing anything with cash is now twice as dangerous: Criminals might rob you, or the cops might rob you.

Michael Kohne (mhkohne@mastodon.social)'s status on Friday, 16-Aug-2024 12:30:50 JST Michael Kohne @mhoye I have to say that I hate that every damn thing is turning complete these days. I don't really want my word processing documents to be active, I sure as hell hate that my FONTS are now doing things other than being symbols.

Michael Kohne (mhkohne@mastodon.social)'s status on Tuesday, 18-Jun-2024 04:12:44 JST Michael Kohne @GossiTheDog Do we know why it got removed? Did Snowflake C&D them? And if so, why, is there anything manifestly untrue in it? (Looked to me from the archive that HR was careful to state that this was all 'claimed by the hacker', not proven facts).

Michael Kohne (mhkohne@mastodon.social)'s status on Wednesday, 31-Jan-2024 04:40:58 JST Michael Kohne @jwz @dangillmor That would be a dandy thing wouldn't it? I'm thinking of getting rid of it, but then...shipping is otherwise expensive and a number of things are not easily available locally. Tough call.

Michael Kohne (mhkohne@mastodon.social)'s status on Friday, 20-Oct-2023 07:39:49 JST Michael Kohne @paulrickards I bought a small roll of esd foam, and lined all the compartments of similar boxes with it. Not perfect, but sufficient, I think. If you want higher grade check someplace like digikey for esd boxes.

Michael Kohne (mhkohne@mastodon.social)'s status on Wednesday, 16-Nov-2022 23:21:41 JST Michael Kohne @rysiek I don't buy that it was intentional. There's not a lot of upside in actually pissing NATO off. Best case scenario pro-russian voices in NATO get much weaker. Worst case NATO forces roll in and help the Ukranians sweep the Russian army off the board. Even Putin knows by now that his military is a hollowed-out shell.

Michael Kohne (mhkohne@mastodon.social)'s status on Wednesday, 16-Nov-2022 23:21:39 JST Michael Kohne @rysiek All the other coverage I found says a grain processing area, not an important power line. Other coverage may well be understating the issue, and I possibly am giving the Russians WAY too much credit for thinking they wouldn't be stupid enough to intentionally attack a NATO member.

Michael Kohne (mhkohne@mastodon.social)'s status on Wednesday, 16-Nov-2022 23:21:38 JST Michael Kohne @rysiek I'm also not saying NATO shouldn't react quickly and forcibly (Anti-missile and supporting troops at the Polish border wouldn't be at all unreasonable, for instance). I also think this incident should be used to moral beat-down anyone opposed to any and all aid to Ukraine. I just don't think we should attribute to malice that which can be easily explained by stupidity.
