@Dramamine@VirginCrusader Of course the downside is that the people doing things that are new, thinking things that are new don't necessarily have the benefit of summarized thoughts to help you digest them. People on the bleeding edge have a constant struggle to get what they are trying to do through to people because not only do you have to explain what you're doing but you have to build the context that people are usually missing.
@Dramamine@VirginCrusader On the upside the internet means that you can not just have summarized media in a way that was never possible with mass-broadcast television
but that you can actually tailor the summary to the viewer
i've dreamed for a long time of having something like a 'goodreads book compare' or a 'khan academy network progress' for what concepts you already understand -- so that you can skip the bullshit for comparing in one-on-one communication what each of you know before you get to the meat of what needs to be communicated (bonus points if you can do it in O(logN) or something) - - this is actually possible even in audio format now that we AI to help us do this stuff but basically no one's done it.
@catmanmancat and they aren't all on youtube -- some were censored there. I try to link to all extant copies on https://www.subscribestar.com/jeff-cliff but apparently even there, they aren't showing all the episodes anymore .. .
> The episode emphasizes the importance of recognizing systemic failures in public health, historical events, and media regulation that collectively hinder individual agency and awareness in society.
> Full summary
> In this episode, the host recounts their personal experience with COVID-19 testing while self-isolating. They discuss the process of going to a testing facility, the uncomfortable nature of the test, and the long wait for results, highlighting the inefficiencies in the healthcare system. The host reflects on the broader implications of their experience, expressing concerns about public health responses and the challenges faced by those without access to reliable communication or transportation. They transition into a discussion about the Norwegian rocket incident of 1995, emphasizing the near-miss of a nuclear disaster and the importance of awareness regarding historical events that shape current geopolitics. The episode also critiques the regulatory environment of radio broadcasting in North America, discussing the limitations placed on free speech and the media's role in shaping public opinion. Finally, the host touches on obesity as an epidemic shaped by external factors, arguing that personal choices are often influenced by societal structures rather than pure individual agency. The episode wraps up with a mention of censorship faced on social media platforms and the importance of alternative media voices. https://youtu.be/8TNmtJVaCs0
While not impossible(immune system reactions that can cause paralysis *do* happen on a *very* rare scale), it's likely that she's blaming an unrelated stroke on the vaccine or something. It's important to remember strokes did not stop happening due to the vaccine, but they did *increase with every covid infection*.
But imagine, with all the antivaxxers who go out looking for such people to use them as examples, and all the people they are around, and all the people i follow you're the only one who's used the term 'brain paralysis' in like 4 years that i can remember or have logs for. that's a 1-in-1,500,000 event at least. Did she 'win' that lottery? Maybe. What are the actual stats?
But then consider the odds of surviving a covid infection at 30 with/without vaccines (1-in-2700 vs 1-in-5596)
>They are shit, if a vaccine has the chance to cause you a stroke and irreversibly turn you braindead,
ALL vaccines can do probably this. Just like ALL vaccines can and do kill some people who take them. But the thing is - strokes after vaccines are *very* rare, rare enough to justify that risk when dealing with a disease that can do much worse. And in particular, and they are *not* very rare in diseases like covid. So not rare that the vaccines actually reduce the chance of stroke in populations who take them even after considering the vaccine-caused-events. https://heart.bmj.com/content/110/9/635
> ruining the rest of your life until you die, then it's potentially shit, specially if it's mandatory by government and specially if such government doesn't warn you about it.
Not sure what government(germany??) is in question but for mandatory government vaccines they should absolutely have a program to deal with vaccine injured people in this case. Canada & the US both have such programs. It's a tragedy and there's no getting around that but nowhere near the scale of the tragedy of covid itself (which is still going on because to a large degree not enough people got vaccinated)
@waifu all of this sounds more or less mastodon specific, and irrelevant to the rest of the fediverse. ie his main issue is between mas.to and mastodon.social (mostly mas.to) both of which are badly run mastodon servers, and the lack of a relay between the two
mas.to doesn't federate with us ( and deserves a retaliatory block, imho @sim )
